Principal Scrum Master

Job Summary:

Servant leader and coach to one or more cross-functional teams in their understanding of delivering valuable outcomes through modern delivery practices and product centric operating model. Coaches on frameworks and methodologies, enabling teams and Product Managers to adopt practices that enhance delivery flow, collaboration, and customer focus. Facilitates team events, establish practices and norms, removes impediments, identifies and manages risks and dependencies. Coaches leaders and organizational groups around their teams to help them embrace agility in the pursuit of a more effective and efficient organizational environment and culture. Helps form the team, establish practices and norms, ensure focus, facilitate events, identify and manage risks, dependences and remove impediments. Seeks continuous improvement and builds high-performing teams by guiding teams toward operational excellence, inspiring innovation and sustained value delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

Guides and coaches teams on modern delivery practices, product centric operating model concepts and principles & provides developmental feedback to team members using a servant leadership style and leading by example. Support the Product Managers and teams in backlog refinement and release planning, and identifying tangible and measurable business outcomes across multiple teams. Fosters an environment of mutual respect and cooperation, transparency, and autonomy across teams. facilitates continuous improvement process and creates the right environment. Monitor and report on teams' progress and metrics; Establishes key metrics that impact value driven delivery and indicate potential problems. Facilitate the creation and maintenance of definition of done to ensure organizational standards are met for the solution (Documentation, Compliance, Architectural and Governance constraints). Guides team rules and norms and protects the teams from outside interference; removes impediments for the team or finds the right personnel to remove impediments. Coordinates with functional leaders to address cross-team dependencies, ensuring smooth execution across teams. Facilitates risk and dependency management across teams and products. Escalates issues with cross-functional impacts through structured channels and program governance. Supports portfolio-level prioritization by surfacing delivery risks and cross-team blockers. Facilitate team collaboration events, as necessary including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives. Facilitates alignment and collaboration across teams by orchestrating cross-team planning, synchronization, and continuous improvement events (e.g., PI planning, quarterly reviews, retrospectives, etc.,.)

Technical Proficiency - Maintains a strong understanding of technical requirements and Agile methodologies, ensuring the Scrum Master can effectively contribute to and guide technical discussions.

Problem Solving and Execution - Establishes and maintains the balance of scope, team deliverables, schedule and resources. Ensures results/impact are fully realized and completed within the agreed timeline and delivered successfully. Demonstrates excellent analytical skills and the ability to remove impediments, facilitating smooth project execution and team progress.

Manages Conflict - Handling conflict situations effectively, with a minimum of noise.

Methodology Focus (Agile Knowledge & Assessment Skills) - Deep understanding of modern software development , a principles, frameworks, and practices the ability to evaluate and improve teams maturity and performance. Employs Agile-specific metrics and key performance indicators to transparently track and report team progress, enhancing clarity and fostering trust through quantifiable insights into Agile practices.

Driving Effective Outcomes - Takes ownership, acts with urgency, and initiates action to turn goals into clear plans, decisions, guardrails, and cadences while navigating ambiguity and change to drive momentum and deliver consistent results.

Engaging with Impact - Communicates with clarity and purpose to align stakeholders, foster collaboration, build trust, and influence coordinated action across teams and functions to accelerate outcomes.

Education, Licenses, Certifications: College, university, or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or related subject, or relevant equivalent experience required. Agile Certification (Certified Scrum Master - CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM) or Safe Scrum Master Certification (SSM) are preferred. This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience: 4+ years of relevant work experience in a Scrum Master role.

Software development or delivery history.

Known about various Agile methodologies and with experience in coaching Scrum and Kanban power-cells.
