Substitute Bus Monitor

School Bus MonitorThe job of the School Bus Monitor is to monitor student behavior on the school bus; maintain order and prepare behavior incident reports; assist driver with loading and unloading handicapped students; transport students by district owned vehicle when deemed by the district expedient and necessary.Required Attachments:Valid First Aid/CPR card or the ability to get oneEssential Job Functions, Duties and Responsibilities:Assesses potential emergency situations for the purpose of taking appropriate action to protect the well-being of studentsAssists students during transit to and from school and assists the bus driver in maintaining order; minimizes disruptive activity on the school bus for the purpose of ensuring student safetyAssists with loading and unloading of ambulatory and non-ambulatory handicapped students; ensures student safety while crossing street to and from busAttends to student needs en-routeEnsures that all students observe safety practices and regulationsReports observations and incidents relating to specific students (i.e. discipline, accidents, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to teachers and administrationAdministers first aid for the purpose of providing emergency care of studentsAssists other personnel as may be required in the completion of their workAttends meetings as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functionsPerforms other such tasks as assigned for the purpose of maintaining program consistency and efficiencyConsistently deal with people in a courteous and professional mannerOther duties as assignedRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and District policiesAbility to maintain a high degree of confidentialityAbility to maintain high ethical standardsAbility to maintain accurate and complete records and formsAbility to work under pressure and deal with emergencies in a calm and effective mannerPossess, or be eligible for a Red Cross or comparable First Aid CertificateSit for prolonged periods of timeLift and carry handicapped studentsRead, write, speak and communicate effectivelyDeal with students in a warm, confident mannerUnderstand and carry out verbal and written instructionsBe fair and consistent when working with studentsListen and communicate about student confidencesUnderstand and communicate student bus safety rules and proceduresUse safe lifting proceduresMonitor and correct student behaviorEstablish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and studentsSignificant physical abilities include: stooping/crouching/bending at the waist and knees, sitting for prolonged periods of time, reading/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/accommodation/field of vision, physical dexterity, arm/leg movement, ability to lift up to 30 lbs.State/District Mandated Requirements:Valid Washington State Driver's LicenseValid First Aid/CPR/AED card or ability to attain oneFingerprinting (paid by employee)
