Senior Banquet Manager | Hawaii Convention Center F&B

Position Position: Senior Banquet Manager Department: Food & Beverage FLSA Status: Salaried, Exempt Role Overview The Senior Banquet Manager is a key operational leader responsible for overseeing the execution of all banquet and catered events within the Food & Beverage department of the Hawaii Convention Center. This role drives service excellence, operational efficiency, and team performance while ensuring the seamless delivery of large-scale, complex events. As a senior leader, this individual is accountable for managing banquet operations end-to-end, mentoring leadership staff (captains/supervisors), and partnering cross-functionally with Culinary, Catering Sales, and Event Management to deliver exceptional guest experiences. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operational Leadership & Event Execution Lead and oversee all banquet operations, ensuring flawless execution of events ranging from small meetings to large-scale conventions and high-volume functions. Direct pre-function meetings, ensuring all service staff are aligned on event details, timing, and service standards. Manage floor operations during events, proactively addressing last-minute changes, service recovery, and client needs. Ensure all banquet spaces are set, maintained, and reset to the highest standards. Team Leadership & Development Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to Banquet Captains, Supervisors, and service staff. Oversee staffing plans, scheduling, and labor deployment to align with business needs and productivity targets. Lead hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management for banquet team members. Foster a culture of accountability, service excellence, and continuous improvement. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner closely with Catering Sales and Event Managers to review BEOs and ensure accurate execution of all event details. Collaborate with Culinary, Stewarding, Engineering, and Security teams to coordinate logistics and service delivery. Participate in daily/weekly operational meetings to align on upcoming events and priorities. Financial & Inventory Management Manage labor and operational costs, ensuring efficiency while maintaining service quality. Monitor food & beverage costs, waste, and inventory levels to meet profitability targets. Oversee banquet equipment, linen inventory, and supply requisitions. Review and validate guest checks, billing accuracy, and cash handling procedures. Quality Control & Compliance Maintain and enforce service standards, policies, and procedures. Conduct regular inspections of banquet areas, ensuring cleanliness, safety, and readiness. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and local liquor regulations. Monitor staff appearance, service execution, and adherence to brand standards. Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement Identify opportunities to enhance service delivery, streamline processes, and improve guest satisfaction. Implement new standards, systems, and best practices to elevate banquet operations. Lead post-event reviews and gather feedback to continuously improve performance. Supervisory Responsibilities Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with all Legends Global policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training employees; planning, assigning, directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Qualifications Education and/or Experience : Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Hospitality, Business, or related field preferred. 5+ years of progressive banquet or food & beverage management experience, preferably in a convention center, hotel, or high-volume venue. Demonstrated experience leading large teams and executing complex, high-volume events. Skills and Abilities : Strong leadership presence with the ability to manage and motivate large teams; excellent organizational and multitasking skills in a fast-paced environment; strong financial acumen with experience managing labor and operational costs; exceptional communication and problem-solving skills; ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure; high attention to detail and commitment to service excellence. Other Qualifications : Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays based on event demands; ability to thrive in a high-volume, fast-paced convention center environment; occasional travel as needed. Compensation Competitive salary range of $80,000 - $90,000 commensurate with experience, and a generous benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, paid vacation, and 401(k) plan.
