Safety Manager

Job Description

Position Summary

The Safety Manager is responsible for leading, developing, and continuously improving our client's company-wide safety program.

This position provides leadership for all aspects of corporate and field safety, including policy development, employee training, regulatory compliance, field audits, incident investigations, subcontractor oversight, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Working collaboratively with executive leadership, Project Managers, Superintendents, and field personnel, the Safety Manager establishes a culture where safety is proactively planned, consistently executed, and embraced by every member of the organization.

Primary Responsibilities

Safety Leadership

· Lead and continuously improve the corporate safety program.

· Champion a company-wide culture where safety is a core value.

· Develop annual safety initiatives and measurable improvement goals.

· Provide leadership and coaching to project teams regarding safe work practices.

· Serve as the company's primary safety resource for employees and customers.

Corporate Safety Program

· Develop, maintain, and update all corporate safety policies and procedures.

· Ensure compliance with OSHA and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

· Maintain written safety manuals, forms, and documentation.

· Manage company safety records and regulatory reporting.

· Coordinate annual reviews and updates of safety policies.

Training & Employee Development

· Develop and conduct new employee safety orientation.

· Coordinate OSHA 10, OSHA 30, fall protection, aerial lift, forklift, rigging, and other required training.

· Maintain employee training records and certifications.

· Develop toolbox talks and ongoing educational programs.

· Mentor Superintendents and Project Managers on effective safety leadership.

Field Safety Management

The Safety Manager is responsible for maintaining a visible presence in the field and ensuring projects consistently meet company safety expectations.

Responsibilities include:

· Conduct routine project site safety audits and inspections.

· Identify unsafe conditions and implement corrective actions.

· Partner with Superintendents to proactively address potential hazards.

· Verify compliance with customer-specific and project-specific safety requirements.

· Monitor subcontractor safety performance and compliance.

· Participate in project kickoff meetings and pre-task planning.

Incident Management

· Lead investigations involving incidents, injuries, property damage, and near misses.

· Identify root causes and develop corrective actions.

· Maintain incident documentation and reporting.

· Coordinate communication with insurance carriers when required.

· Track trends and recommend improvements to reduce future risk.

Compliance & Risk Management

· Ensure OSHA compliance across all operations.

· Coordinate regulatory inspections and customer safety audits.

· Maintain required safety documentation for project prequalification.

· Support insurance audits and risk assessments.

· Monitor leading and lagging safety indicators and report findings to executive leadership.

Customer & Project Support

· Participate in preconstruction meetings where safety planning is required.

· Assist project teams with site-specific safety plans.

· Represent the company during owner and General Contractor safety meetings.

· Support project teams in resolving customer safety concerns.

· Promote the company's reputation as an industry leader in safety performance.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

The Safety Manager partners closely with every department to ensure safety is integrated into every phase of project execution.

Skills and Requirements

3-5+ years of commercial construction safety experience within a GC

· Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards.

· Experience leading field safety programs.

· Excellent communication and leadership skills.

· Ability to influence teams through coaching and collaboration.

· Strong organizational and documentation skills.

· STS-C

· Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites. OSHA 500 or OSHA Outreach Trainer certification.

· CHST, CSP, ASP, or equivalent professional certification.

· Structural steel, PEMB, or industrial construction experience.

· Experience supporting large commercial or industrial projects.

· First Aid/CPR Instructor certification.
