Risk Manager

Risk ManagerBe a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine as a Risk Manager in the Risk and Patient Safety department. This position requires occasional travel to our system site locations around Chicagoland as needed.The primary function of this position will be to work with clinicians and administrators within the Medical Center to conduct proactive risk assessments, to review and investigate occurrence reports, complete root cause analysis', review adverse and sentinel events, and patient care complications and to identify patient safety issues, potential liability concerns, and system breakdowns. The Risk Manager will also complete formal grievances and participate in hospital surveys.Essential Job FunctionsConduct investigations through clinician interview, medical record assessment and environment of care analysis for assigned patient care events categorized as near miss, adverse or sentinel eventsAssist the Director of Risk Management & Patient Safety in conducting root cause analysis meetingsFacilitate follow-up task force and committee meetings to address risk and safety issues identifiedAssist the Director of Risk Management & Patient Safety in conducting proactive risk assessments for identified sections and departments on an annual basisLink specific initiatives to reductions in claims frequency and severity trends with the goal of reducing malpractice related expendituresConducts educational sessions for faculty and staff on risk and safety related topicsParticipates in hospital surveysProvide support and consultation service to all staff on a rotating schedule for pager coverage 24/7Facilitate disclosure conversations with clinicians and patient/family membersParticipates in hospital committees representing Departmental issues and risk and safety concernsTracks and trends data and prepare risk/ patient safety reports and metrics for presentation at regularly scheduled meetings and for regular internal distributionPerforms other duties assignedRequired QualificationsExcellent oral, writing, and interpersonal written communication skillsStrong organizing and data management skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, monitoring, and evaluation toolsHospital experience of at least 3-5 years in a clinical rolePreferred QualificationsBachelor's degree or higher in Nursing (BSN)Risk Management work experience of at least 2-3 yearsRN LicensePosition DetailsJob Type/FTE: Full-TimeShift: Days & on-call rotationJob Location: Flexible (Hyde Park)Unit/Department: Risk and Patient SafetyCBA Code: Non-UnionAbout UsWe've been at the forefront of medicine since 1899.
