The students’ disabilities range from mild to severe. Implement programming designed by the teacher for children in activities designed to promote social, physical, adaptive, and intellectual growth. Attend to children’s basic needs by feeding, dressing, lifting, changing and toilet training them. Assist the special education teacher with enforcing the rules for behavior, and procedures for maintaining order. Essential Functions Implements under the supervision of assigned teacher, behavioral plans designed by IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts. Assist students with physical disabilities according to their needs to include, but not limited to transferring to and from wheelchairs; lifting; positioning; or assisting students with personal care such as feeding, bathroom needs and personal hygiene. Assists with the inventory, maintenance and care of equipment. Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional (e.g. tube feeding, medication, etc.) for the purpose of meeting immediate health care needs. Assists with managing the behavior of students. This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous students as needed. Recognize differences in each student’s special medical, physical, communicative and emotional needs and adapt methods and interaction accordingly. Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, library, lunchroom, car and/or bus loading/unloading, etc.), and responds to emergency and non-emergency situations for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment. Maintains confidentiality of students and other professional information. Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Requirements High School Diploma or GED Certificate required. 60 Semester hours of college credit from an accredited educational institution or a passing score on the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment required. Successful experience in job related area preferred. Physical Requirements The usual and customary methods of performing thejob'sfunctions require the following physical demands: significant lifting (up to 50 pounds), carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling,and crouching.
