Digital Learning Coach (Elementary and Middle School)

Job Description Digital Learning Coaches provide, promote, and participate in shared leadership at one or multiple schools. They are valued for leading a strong and comprehensive school instructional technology program which provides tools, resources, and content that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and information and communications literacy while also making content engaging, relevant, and meaningful to students. Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Job Title: Digital Learning Coach - Elementary and Middle School Salary Schedule: State Salary Schedule; CHCCS Salary Page Reports To: School Principal(s) with support and guidance from the Director of Digital Learning and Library Services Salary Grade: Instructional Support Work Location(s): Assigned by District FLSA Status: Exempt Work Schedule: 11 months (K-8) Position Summary Digital Learning Coaches encourage student-owned, modern digital learning skills including collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity in the school(s) they serve. They enable teaching in all content areas including global awareness, civic literacy, financial literacy, and health awareness. Digital Learning Coaches demonstrate the value of lifelong learning and encourage the community at the schools they serve to learn and grow. They are reflective about their practice and promote inclusion and analysis of assessments that are authentic, structured and demonstrate student understanding. Essential Duties Planning and Facilitating Teaching and Learning Align the mission, resources and activities of the instructional technology program with the North Carolina State Standards, ISTE Standards for Students and North Carolina Digital Learning Competencies, and the local goals and priorities for teaching and learning. Collaborate with teachers and other instructional staff to curate and support technology implemented and delivered lessons and activities. Provide professional development addressing instructional theory, practice, and resources that promote student-owned learning, relevancy, digital literacy skills, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. Model the integration of technology in all curriculum areas. Facilitate school participation in technology programs and activities. Collaborate with the School Librarian to provide leadership in the school's use of instructional technology resources and plans digital citizenship and information literacy lessons to enhance learning. Follow a plan for professional development and actively seek out opportunities to grow professionally. Planning and Facilitating Information Access and Delivery Implement best practices related to technology use in the school program based on research, pilot programs, and state/national standards. Work with principals and other school-based leadership teams to provide access to technology resources and services of the technology facilitator at point of need. Work with teachers and technology staff in the selection of resources that are compatible with the school technology infrastructure. Assist with planning the design of the technology infrastructure so that information resources are continually available to the school community. Promote family, business, and community partnerships that support the academic success, career readiness, and general well-being of all children. Adhere to and communicate copyright, as well as other laws and guidelines, pertaining to the distribution and ethical use of all resources. Work with the school Technology Assistant(s) (High School) and/or IT Support Technicians to ensure that hardware, applications, and the network infrastructure are available for teaching and learning. Planning and Facilitating Program Administration Collaborate with the Librarian and school-based committees to develop effective decisions that promote the media and technology program. Collaborate with the Director of Digital Learning and Library Services, Executive Director of Technology, and the school leadership team to develop, implement, and update the district instructional technology plan aligned with the NC Digital Learning plan. Collaborate with teachers, school Librarians, students, and technology staff to evaluate and select resources addressing curricular needs and learning goals. Assist in the ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of the instructional technology program. Serve as a school-based system administrator for the school website and district or school-purchased instructional software. Carries out non-instructional duties as assigned and/or as needed to ensure student safety. All other duties as required. Education/Experience Requirements NC Professional Educator's licensure required in the area(s) of 077 IT Specialist or 079 Computer Education Endorsement. Master's Degree in Instructional Technology or Information/Library Science preferred. Experience in providing instructional technology support services in an educational setting. Experience in developing instructional materials for adult learners and presenting professional learning opportunities both live and online. Knowledge of contemporary instructional technology trends and issues. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable while still in compliance with North Carolina statute. Physical Requirements Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
