Site Manager - material handling

We are seeking a temporary, full-time Site Manager to support a large-scale material handling installation project in Cedar Rapids, Iowa . This contract role will begin July 6th and is expected to last a minimum of four months.

The Site Manager will serve as the on-site representative responsible for overseeing the installation and commissioning of automated material handling equipment . This individual will coordinate and manage third-party contractors , ensure work is executed safely and in accordance with project requirements, and maintain consistent communication with internal leadership and the end customer.

This role reports directly to the Director of Project Management .

Responsibilities:

• Serve as the primary on-site representative throughout installation and commissioning activities
• Manage and direct installation contractors , ensuring adherence to project scope , schedule , and safety requirements
• Coordinate between installation contractors and customer contractors to mitigate risks and avoid change orders related to project delays
• Oversee execution of mechanical installation , including:
• • Conveyors , lifts, rotate tables, and associated equipment
  • Platforms, staircases, handrails, guarding, and safety fencing
  • Sound enclosure structures and related assemblies
• Ensure proper execution of:
• • Equipment receiving, unloading, and inspection
  • Mezzanine staging, including lift coordination and placement
  • Final mechanical assembly , anchoring, and alignment
• Enforce all site safety requirements and ensure compliance with OSHA standards and site-specific safety requirements
• Review and monitor contractor safety plans and work practices
• Ensure proper use of material handling equipment and adherence to site constraints
• Track installation progress against the project schedule , milestones, and deliverables
• Identify risks, delays, or conflicts and proactively escalate issues
• Coordinate sequencing of work across multiple installation phases
• Provide regular verbal and written progress updates to the end customer
• Serve as the primary interface between the customer, contractors, and internal project teams
• Communicate project status, risks, and key decisions to the Director of Project Management
• Ensure installation meets engineering drawings , specifications, and quality standards
• Support commissioning activities and coordination with downstream teams
• Verify punch list completion and site readiness for project handoff

Requirements:

• Full-time, on-site role in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
• Contract duration: minimum four months starting July 6th
• Must be capable of working in an active industrial construction environment
• Daily on-site presence required during installation and commissioning activities

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in site supervision , installation management , or project execution within manufacturing , automation , or material handling environments
• Strong understanding of mechanical installation practices , including conveyors, platforms, equipment rigging, anchoring, and alignment
• Proven experience managing contractors and overseeing field work in an active job site environment
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings , installation layouts, specifications, and project documentation
• Excellent communication skills and leadership skills in a customer-facing environment
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt in a dynamic industrial or construction job site environment
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office , including Excel , Word , and Outlook
