RN - Registered Nurse

Registered NurseRegistered Nurses will provide nursing and healthcare services to individuals at Five Points Correctional Facility, a maximum-security male correctional facility. The role involves handling sick calls, triaging medical concerns, administering medications, responding to emergencies, maintaining inmate health records, and supporting the facility's clinical and administrative healthcare operations. Nurses must be able to work in a correctional environment, follow applicable facility policies and security procedures, maintain accurate clinical documentation, and respond appropriately to routine and emergency healthcare situations.Key ResponsibilitiesManage inmate sick calls, assess reported health concerns, and determine appropriate follow-up care.Triage sick calls and identify situations requiring urgent medical attention or emergency room evaluation.Administer medications, including insulin, in accordance with applicable clinical procedures and facility protocols.Maintain appropriate tool control and follow established correctional facility security procedures.Conduct required screenings, document findings, and report relevant clinical observations.Respond to medical emergencies, including situations involving Narcan administration, physical-force-related injuries, asthma rescue, and employee accidents or injuries.Coordinate emergency care and emergency room utilization when indicated.Follow required reporting procedures for incidents involving sexual abuse or sexual assault.Maintain accurate, complete, and timely inmate health records and related clinical documentation.Perform administrative responsibilities associated with inmate deaths, in accordance with facility policies and procedures.Communicate patient conditions, clinical findings, and significant changes to the appropriate healthcare personnel.Follow infection control, patient safety, confidentiality, and correctional facility procedures.Perform other nursing-related duties as required by the facility.Work Schedule & ConditionsStandard schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM EST.Other hours and shifts may be available, depending on facility needs and assignment requirements.Overtime is not routinely required but may need to be worked based on operational needs.Work on NYS holidays is not mandatory but may be available or required by mutual scheduling arrangements.No travel is required.The assignment is located within a maximum-security male correctional facility.Cell phones are not allowed inside the facility. Candidates must comply with all facility security rules and restrictions.Candidates must be prepared to work in a secure correctional environment and follow all applicable access, safety, and conduct requirements.Assignment duration is up to two years.Qualifications & RequirementsMust be qualified to practice as a Registered Nurse and meet applicable New York State licensing requirements.Ability to assess patient conditions, triage sick calls, and recognize medical emergencies.Competence in medication administration, including insulin administration.Ability to document clinical assessments, treatments, screenings, and patient outcomes accurately.Ability to respond appropriately to medical emergencies and coordinate emergency care.Strong communication, clinical judgment, observation, and documentation skills.Ability to follow clinical protocols, facility procedures, security requirements, and incident-reporting procedures.Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and professional conduct in a correctional healthcare setting.Candidates must be able to comply with the facility's security restrictions, including the prohibition on cell phones.Background Check RequirementsBackground check results must be provided as part of the candidate submission and/or required facility credentialing process.Candidates must complete the applicable background screening and clearance requirements for access to Five Points Correctional Facility.Any additional documentation or verification required by the facility must be provided before the candidate begins the assignment.
