Assistant Professor, Clinical Appointment Appointment (CFA), Breast Medical Oncology

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Clinical – 55%
  • A. Practice clinical medicine in an exemplary manner per Texas State Board of Medical Examiners standards balanced with academic activities.
  • B. Capable of providing comprehensive history and physical examinations; perform invasive procedures as dictated by subspecialty. Requires standing, bending, stooping, lifting, hearing, manual dexterity, and clear verbal communication.
  • C. Develop and maintain a clinical practice for patients referred to MD Anderson Cancer Center.
  • Provide physician staffing for a training center and consult service at a level commensurate with other physicians of the same training and experience.
  • Visually review ICD‑10 and CPT coding and approve all charge documents within four working days.
  • Complete patient documentation for medical records within institutional time frames; requires clear dictation and visual review.
  • Correspond with physicians via writing or telephone regarding patient care and treatment.
  • Stay informed of current approaches through attendance at continuing education conferences.
  • Share clinical responsibilities with other faculty (inpatient, outpatient clinic, procedures, and other duties as requested).
  • Request appropriate consultations for patients by phone or writing.
  • Provide peer review of faculty clinical practice.
  • Participate in quality improvement and institutional effectiveness or healthcare excellence projects.
• Administrative and Service – 5%
  • Investigate and review best practice initiatives, clinical and institutional effectiveness projects.
  • Serve on institutional and hospital committees as requested by the Chair, visually reviewing all committee documents.
  • Represent the Department at local, regional, state, and national medical oncology meetings.
• Research – 5%
  • Actively engage in clinical and translational research and scholarly activities.
  • Develop research programs aligned with departmental goals; synthesize information and instruct research support personnel.
  • Identify grant and funding sources; submit grants and protocols, develop budgets, and complete application forms.
• Education/Teaching – 10%
  • Act as a role model for faculty, fellows, residents, and students; provide an integrated educational program for pediatric residents and fellows.
  • Attend and participate in departmental teaching and continuing education conferences.
  • Supervise trainees during clinical rotations, including doctoral/master’s students, postdoctoral fellows, clinicians, and visiting scientists.
• Service (External or Extramural)
  • Participate in external research committees, collaborative research activities, conferences, professional society activities, study sections, and staff meetings.
  • Edit or review presentations for scientific meetings, seminars, or publications, as well as grant applications and patents.

Target base salary: $287,044 to $367,301. Eligible for incentive compensation, comprehensive health, wellness, time off, savings, retirement benefits, and relocation support, as applicable.
