Job Summary:

The Senior Plumbing Service Technician is an experienced, highly skilled plumbing professional responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and installing plumbing systems and equipment in residential and light commercial settings. This position independently handles complex service calls, provides customers with knowledgeable and professional recommendations, and ensures all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable plumbing codes and company standards.

As a senior-level member of the service team, this position serves as a technical resource for other technicians and apprentices and may assist with troubleshooting, training, and mentoring less-experienced team members. The Senior Plumbing Service Technician is expected to demonstrate a high level of technical expertise, workmanship, accountability, customer service, and leadership while representing the company professionally in customers' homes and businesses.

Key Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and troubleshoot complex plumbing issues involving water distribution, drainage, waste and vent systems, fixtures, water heaters, piping, valves, pumps, and other plumbing components.
• Perform plumbing repairs, replacements, maintenance, and installations in residential and light commercial properties.
• Independently manage service calls from initial diagnosis through completion, including identifying the root cause of plumbing problems and determining appropriate repair options.
• Clearly explain findings, repair options, recommendations, and associated work to customers in a professional and easy-to-understand manner.
• Identify additional plumbing concerns, safety issues, code deficiencies, or preventative maintenance needs while performing service work.
• Complete work in accordance with applicable plumbing codes, manufacturer specifications, company procedures, and industry best practices.
• Read and interpret plumbing diagrams, specifications, equipment documentation, and applicable code requirements.
• Test completed repairs and installations to verify proper operation, performance, and safety.
• Provide advanced troubleshooting assistance and technical guidance to plumbing technicians and apprentices.
• Assist in training and mentoring less-experienced team members on diagnostic techniques, proper installation practices, code requirements, customer service, and company procedures.
• Serve as a technical resource for difficult or unusual plumbing service situations.
• Maintain accurate and complete service documentation, including diagnoses, work performed, materials used, recommendations, customer approvals, and other required records.
• Properly operate and maintain plumbing tools, diagnostic equipment, drain-cleaning equipment, and company-provided equipment.
• Maintain an organized, clean, and appropriately stocked service vehicle.
• Follow company safety policies and procedures and consistently use required personal protective equipment.
• Protect customers' property and maintain a clean and professional work area throughout each service call.
• Communicate effectively with customers, dispatchers, service managers, technicians, and other departments regarding job status, scheduling needs, materials, and technical concerns.
• Participate in an on-call or after-hours service rotation as required.
• Maintain required licenses, certifications, and continuing education.
• Perform other duties as assigned based on business and operational needs.

Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate also demonstrates leadership without requiring a formal supervisory title. They are willing to share their knowledge, support apprentices and less-experienced technicians, and help establish a high standard of workmanship, professionalism, and accountability across the service team.

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of professional plumbing experience, with significant experience performing residential and/or commercial plumbing service and repair.
• Advanced knowledge of plumbing systems, materials, installation methods, service procedures, and troubleshooting techniques.
• Strong working knowledge of applicable plumbing codes and local requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose and repair complex plumbing problems.
• Experience servicing and installing common plumbing equipment and systems, including water heaters, fixtures, faucets, toilets, piping, valves, water distribution systems, and drain/waste/vent systems.
• Ability to read and interpret plumbing diagrams, equipment specifications, technical documentation, and manufacturer instructions.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, plumbing equipment, and diagnostic equipment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to communicate professionally and respectfully with customers and coworkers.
• Ability to accurately document service work and utilize mobile devices, tablets, or service-management software.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with company requirements.
• Ability to participate in an on-call or after-hours rotation as required.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 7+ years of plumbing experience with a strong background in service and repair.
• Previous experience in a senior, lead, or mentoring role within a plumbing service department.
• Experience training or mentoring plumbing apprentices and less-experienced technicians.
• Experience with both residential and commercial plumbing service.
• Advanced experience diagnosing difficult or recurring plumbing issues.
• Experience with tank and tankless water heater installation, service, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with drain and sewer diagnostics, including camera inspection and locating equipment.
• Experience with water treatment, backflow prevention, recirculation systems, sump pumps, sewage ejector systems, or similar specialty plumbing equipment.
• Manufacturer-specific training or certifications related to plumbing equipment commonly serviced by the company.
• Backflow testing or other applicable plumbing certifications.
• Experience using field-service management software.
• Strong customer-service background within a residential service environment.
• Experience assisting with estimating repair options, materials, or service recommendations.

Work Conditions & Requirements:

• Work is primarily performed at residential and commercial customer locations throughout Lincoln and surrounding service areas.
• Regularly works indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to hot, cold, wet, dirty, dusty, or otherwise uncomfortable environmental conditions.
• Must be able to work in confined or restricted spaces, including crawl spaces, utility rooms, mechanical rooms, basements, and similar areas.
• Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, climb, and work in physically demanding positions for extended periods.
• Must be able to safely climb and work from ladders when necessary.
• Regularly uses hands and arms to operate tools, equipment, piping, fixtures, and plumbing components.
• Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull tools, equipment, materials, and plumbing components weighing up to 50 pounds independently and heavier items with appropriate assistance or lifting equipment.
• May be exposed to sewage, wastewater, chemicals, biological contaminants, sharp objects, pressurized systems, hot water, and other hazards commonly associated with plumbing service work.
• Required to use appropriate personal protective equipment and follow all company safety procedures.
• Must be able to safely operate a company service vehicle and travel between customer locations throughout the workday.
• Work schedules may vary depending on service demand and may include overtime, early mornings, evenings, weekends, and participation in an on-call rotation.
• Must maintain regular and reliable attendance and be able to respond appropriately to scheduled and emergency service needs.
• Must maintain all licenses, certifications, and qualifications required to perform assigned plumbing work.
