Senior Java Software Engineering Lead - AWS / Spring Framework / Microservices

What You'll Be Doing Design, develop, and optimise low-latency, high-performance distributed systems. Architect scalable and resilient solutions that support complex business workflows and critical operations. Partner closely with business users and stakeholders to translate real-world challenges into elegant technical solutions. Take end-to-end ownership of production systems, ensuring reliability, performance, and operational excellence. Contribute to and enhance robust end-of-day and operational processes. Lead technical decision-making and champion engineering best practices across software development, testing, deployment, and monitoring. Mentor and develop a high-performing team of software engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous improvement. What We're Looking For 10+ years of software engineering experience in a fast-paced, high-performance production environment. Strong Computer Science fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, system design, and software architecture. Proven commercial experience developing enterprise applications using Java, Spring Boot, and modern microservices architectures. Strong SQL skills with experience working on large-scale, data-intensive applications. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a passion for tackling complex technical challenges. Comfortable operating with a high degree of ownership, autonomy, and accountability. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline. Deep understanding of multi-threaded, concurrent, and distributed systems. Experience with modern cloud and infrastructure technologies such as AWS, Kubernetes, Redis, and containerised environments. Exposure to messaging platforms, event-driven architectures, service-oriented architectures, and asynchronous system design. Strong understanding of CI/CD practices, automated testing frameworks, observability, and production monitoring tools. Solid Linux experience and familiarity with NoSQL databases and distributed data platforms. Demonstrated leadership experience managing and mentoring high-performing software engineering teams of approximately 5-7 engineers. Track record of delivering complex, business-critical projects within demanding environments.
