Overview
A Board Director of the Bloom Again Foundation serves as a steward of the organization’s mission, vision, and core values, ensuring the Foundation is governed with integrity, accountability, and strategic focus. Directors provide fiduciary oversight, contribute to long‑range planning, and actively support fundraising and community engagement efforts. In addition, Board Directors serve as ambassadors for Bloom Again within the community, helping to elevate the organization’s visibility and impact.
Role Purpose
To work collaboratively with fellow board members to strengthen organizational effectiveness, sustainability, and long‑term impact in service to women at or near the poverty level.
Core Governance Responsibilities
- Understands, supports, and promotes Bloom Again Foundation’s mission, vision, and core values.
- Advocates on behalf of Bloom Again and communicates its purpose, programs, and impact to others.
- Ensures board decisions and actions align with the organization’s charitable purpose and values.
- Serves as an ambassador who reflects Bloom Again’s commitment to compassion, dignity, accountability, and empowerment.
Primary Strategic Planning And Organizational Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning and Organizational Direction: Participates in establishing, reviewing, and monitoring Bloom Again’s strategic plan and long‑range goals; helps ensure that board decisions support the organization’s long‑term priorities, objectives, and sustainability; contributes insight, expertise, and community perspective; supports relationships and policies that advance Bloom Again’s strategic partnerships and community reach.
- Fiduciary and Governance Oversight: Exercises the duties of care, loyalty, and obedience; participates in adopting the annual budget and providing fiscal oversight; helps ensure responsible stewardship of financial, human, and physical resources; acts prudently and upholds sound governance practices; avoids self‑dealing and conflicts of interest.
- Board Participation and Engagement: Attends and actively participates in the Annual Meeting and at least 75% of all board meetings; prepares for meetings and provides updates to the Board Co‑Chairs when requested; serves as a working member of at least one committee; participates in board discussions, votes, planning sessions, and governance responsibilities in a timely and thoughtful manner.
- Fundraising and Philanthropic Support: Makes a recurring minimum donation of $50 per month or an equivalent annual contribution; attends Bloom Again’s annual event and at least one other fundraising event annually; promotes the event and other initiatives within professional and personal networks; recruits sponsors, identifies donor prospects, helps sell tickets, and supports fundraising goals established by the Board.
- Community Ambassadorship and Visibility: Uses board‑approved talking points or an elevator speech to discuss Bloom Again; publicises Bloom Again’s website, events, newsletters, and campaigns through appropriate personal and professional channels; helps increase awareness through social media, community presence, and relationship‑building; shares relevant information, connections, and opportunities that support Bloom Again’s mission and visibility.
- Board Development and Organizational Support: Assists with recruitment, selection, orientation, and engagement of new board members; reviews onboarding and board materials; votes in a timely manner on partner requests and board recommendations; supports additional organizational efforts such as friendraisers, strategic partnerships, communications support, and donor cultivation.
- Strategic Plan Alignment: Supports and monitors the implementation of Bloom Again’s strategic plan by aiding the organization in strengthening services, expanding community awareness, building sustainable funding, deepening strategic partnerships, and remaining mission‑focused in all governance and planning decisions.
Collaboration
Board members will collaborate with each other to achieve goals, meet objectives, and produce impactful outcomes that advance the organization’s mission, including meeting with other board members, arranging subject matter experts, inviting others to events, and introducing potential donors.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated commitment to the mission of Bloom Again Foundation.
- Willingness to devote time, attention, and resources to effective board service.
- Ability to think strategically, exercise sound judgment, and work collaboratively.
- Commitment to ethical conduct, confidentiality, and accountability.
- Experience or interest in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, governance, community partnerships, communications, or related areas.
Term of Service
Board Directors are elected and serve in accordance with the Bloom Again Foundation bylaws and governance procedures, holding office until the next annual meeting where they must be re‑elected by a majority vote of the other board of directors, or until they resign by proper notice as outlined in the bylaws.
Performance & Accountability
- Directors are expected to faithfully fulfill the duties of board service.
- If unable to do so, they should submit their resignation in writing to the Board President.
Strategic Plan Alignment
Board Directors are expected to strongly support the goals outlined in the strategic plan (2025‑2026).
