Location

This position is located in Denver, Colorado. This posting may be used to fill future vacancies at this location.

This position is located in Denver and provides medical assistance to inmates housed in the Denver Complex.

This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

• In a clinical setting, assist patients with activities of daily living to include bathing, mouth care, dressing, toileting and clothing changes when incontinence occurs, ambulation and feeding;
• Obtains and records vital signs for review by staff nurse;
• Provide and assist with patient transfers and turning in bed;
• Report changes in patient skin condition and patient health care complaints to shift registered nurse;
• Empty catheter bags; offer fluids and record Intake and Output; apply external catheters;
• Talk with patients to keep oriented to person, place, and time;
• Respond to call lights and inmate requests for assistance;
• Assist with meal distribution;
• Change linen according to unit schedule;
• Assist patient with making of bed, picking up room, etc.;
• Performdressing changes, soaks, finger stick blood glucose measurements, vital signs, and pulseoximetryunder the supervision and direction of a registered nurse;
• Maintain appropriate tool and materials control and accountability;
• Participate in development of patient plan of care;
• May be required to participate in restraining an inmate primarily for medical reasons;
• Provide clerical assistance byansweringphones, taking and forwarding accurate messages, transcribing medical orders,and medical record filing;
• Retrieve and enter kites in computerized kite log;
• Schedule inmates for sick line and chronic care visits according to facility specific scheduling guidelines;
• Assist with delivery of medications;
• Receive, verify, store and prepare return pharmaceuticals;
• Assist in maintaining inventory and stockingof supplies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Applicant must have one year of full-time experience as a CertifiedNurse Aide (CNA). Experience must be thoroughly detailed in the WORK EXPERIENCE section of the application.

• Applicant must possess a valid, active Nurse Aide Certification (CNA) from the State of Colorado;
• Applicant must possess a valid, active QMAP Certification; a copy of your QMAP Certification/Registration must be attached to your application.

SUBSTITUTIONS

• Current, valid licensure as a Practical Nurse (LPN) from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies or any state participating in the Nurse Licensure Compact will substitute for the experience requirement.

• Ability to operate independently within the scope of a CNA.
• Must be of high integrity to handle confidential health care information to include all inmate records.
• Basic knowledge of computer systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Experience working as a CNA in a correctional environment.
2. Current CPR Certification (attach certification).
3. Current First Aid Certification (attach certification).
4. Experience working with patients who have multiple disabilities to include both physical and mental.
5. Experience working with the senior population.
6. Hospice experience.
