Quality Inspector

SCHWING America is seeking a Quality Inspector to help ensure that manufactured parts, weldments, incoming trucks, and contract units meet applicable specifications, quality standards, and codes. Under general supervision, this position performs inspections, testing, auditing, troubleshooting, documentation, and research to identify issues and recommend corrective action.

The ideal candidate has technical quality education, experience with welding or quality inspection, strong blueprint-reading skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with production teams and outside vendors.

What You Will Do

• Conduct dimensional inspections of piece parts to verify compliance with applicable standards and codes.
• Perform in-process dimensional inspections of weldments and maintain accurate inspection data and records.
• Complete final dimensional inspections of vendor-supplied weldments to confirm compliance with applicable standards and codes.
• Use close-tolerance measuring and testing equipment for dimensional inspections and maintain equipment in proper working order.
• Develop and maintain inspection reports and initiate nonconformance reports when materials or products do not meet requirements.
• Recommend methods to improve product safety, quality, and manufacturing processes.
• Review SCHWING engineering prints affected by engineering change orders for accuracy and completeness.
• Contact vendors by telephone or in person to resolve quality concerns involving supplied materials, components, and other items.
• Inspect incoming trucks, verify specifications and quality, and maintain a running record of vehicle identification numbers.
• Inspect incoming contract units from GmbH against sales orders and GmbH order confirmations; document specifications and quality and provide inspection reports to GmbH.
• Research and troubleshoot quality issues, recommend corrective action, and perform other assignments as requested.

What We Are Looking For

Required Qualifications

• Two-year technical degree in Quality Assurance Technology or a closely related field.
• Previous experience in welding, quality inspection, or a related manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, hydraulic schematics, and electrical schematics.
• Experience using dimensional inspection tools and close-tolerance measuring equipment.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to manage a high workload and multiple projects or priorities.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work effectively with internal departments, suppliers, and other external individuals or groups.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience inspecting welded assemblies, fabricated parts, trucks, or heavy equipment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
• Experience working in SAP.
• Experience creating inspection reports and nonconformance documentation.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

• Perform inspections using testing and inspection equipment and respond to quality issues on the production floor approximately 70 percent of the time.
• Perform stationary computer and office-related work approximately 25 percent of the time.
• Perform outdoor work in varying weather conditions approximately 5 percent of the time.
• Interact regularly with internal and external individuals and groups.
