Certified Medical AssistantThe Certified Medical Assistant is a graduate of an accredited school of Medical Assisting and is certified accordingly. The Certified Medical Assistant practices within their scope as directed by the agency Medical Director and the American Association of Medical Assistant (AAMA). The Certified Medical Assistant provides evidenced-based practice as per the Nurse Practice Act and other governing bodies and demonstrates growth in ability to care for patients with chronic diseases; requires consultation with experienced clinicians and benefits from feedback; reports directly to Director of Nursing and/or designee such as: Lead Licensed Practical Nurse and/or Registered Nurse.Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesMaintains professionalism while conducting agency businessPrioritize and performs multiple tasksRecognize and respect cultural diversityUtilizes medical terminology appropriatelyPerforms basic administrative medical assisting functions per agency guidelinesSchedule, coordinate, and monitor appointments where necessary to include conducting follow-up telephone callsComprehends and adheres to managed care policies and proceduresUtilizes electronic technology to receive, organize, prioritize and transmit information per agency guidelinesActively participate in the referral processClinicalTriage all clients (to include pediatrics) scheduled to see a provider according to agency policy and proceduresWorks directly with the providers as assignedConducts patient history and chief assessmentsDocuments demographical and/or medical information into the agency electronic medical record with an ability to retrieve specific data accordinglyApply principles of aseptic technique and infection controlComply with quality assurance practicesCollects and process specimensPerforms inventory of supplies and equipmentPerforms routine maintenance of administrative and clinical equipmentTravels from site to site, when necessary, to provide direct patient care, triage, and/or other duties as assigned. Must maintain a valid Virginia's driver's license and update HR where necessaryMust be able to staff flexible hours with the ability to work 5:00pm-9:00pm on assigned weekday evenings and/or Saturday mornings 8:00am-12:00pmAssist in teaching health promotion and disease processesPractice within legal and ethical boundariesComplies with established risk management and safety regulationsReviews next day schedule and prepare huddle informationPerforms other duties as assignedQualifications and Desirable TraitsMust be certified to practice in the state of Virginia, current CPR (BLS) certification required.Experience as a Certified Medical Assistant within a community health and/or public health setting preferred.Team player, goal oriented and highly adaptableMust be computer literateSelf-starter, efficient, and professional and promotes the organization through positive public relationsExcellent interpersonal, analytical, communication skillsEmbrace challenges and provides solutionsHigh level of punctuality and organization; must be customer service oriented
