This position is available through a contract and may lead to a permanent role.

Location: Albany, NY and surrounding areas

Hours: Monday-Friday 6:30am-3:00pm with every other Saturday 7:00am-11:00am

Expected duration: 3 months or longer with potential for a permanent position

Float role where candidates may travel to various sites and work 8-hour shifts between 6:30am and 5:30pm, with a 5-hour shift every other Saturday from 7am-1pm.

Clean driving record and reliable transportation are required

Travel expenses will be reimbursed

Overview

The primary responsibility of a phlebotomist is to support in executing diverse assigned tasks, resolving issues, providing training, and suggesting workflow improvements.

Key Duties

Experience with blood sample collection, specimen labeling, specimen centrifugation, maintenance data recording and decontamination, patient information updates, etc.

Collects and handles specimens following established protocols. Skillfully explains the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection methods in a clear and polite manner when necessary

Demonstrate venipuncture techniques using different types of needles and thoroughly understand all physician orders. Match requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.

Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as per test order requirements

Review all test requisitions or computer labels to ensure accuracy. Package specimens appropriately for transport

Store specimens at the correct temperature, place them in suitable containers, label accurately, and follow specific transport protocols for specimen integrity.

Understand and adhere to OSHA and DEP guidelines. Participate in departmental training sessions annually

Handle incoming calls, interpret lab results to address queries

Minimum Requirements

Valid Phlebotomy certification as required by the state of employment in some states

At least 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a high-volume lab or hospital setting

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

High School Diploma or GED
