Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Laboratory Information Manager) Department: Department of Veterans Affairs The incumbent is a qualified, experienced Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) who serves as the Laboratory Information Manager (LIM) and ADPAC (Automated Data Processing Coordinator). Key Responsibilities The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. Major duties include but are not limited to: Responsible for creation and maintenance of various other VistA files such as but not limited to the Etiology file 61.2, Lab Control Name file 62.3, Auto Instrument file 62.4, Lab Shipping Manifest 62.8, Cumulative file 64.7, Accession file 68, the Load/Worklist file 68.2 and Lab Order Entry file 69. Responsible for the creation and use of fileman searches for data analysis and collection in the above listed files. Works with CPRS concerning lab related issues such as quick orders, order entry errors, new test placement, physician education on test ordering, creating new order menus, etc. Provides instruction to new Laboratory employees on how to use laboratory information systems, hospital information systems, email, document control, and shared laboratory folders as part of new employee orientation. Responsible for shipping manifest and LEDI creation/maintenance for reference laboratory send out testing. Performs annual interface connections testing for all instruments that have interface usage. Troubleshoot computer issues. Works with IT as needed to troubleshoot and solve computer issues. Responsible for the development, deployment, and maintenance of Instrument Manger-based decision support algorithms (rules). Implements and maintains coding and mapping for laboratory test ordering, reporting, billing, and workload recording systems. Analyzes emerging trends, software, and technology and adopts appropriate methods for local programs to meet agency goals. Serves as the local expert for national software developers for alpha or beta testing of software packages. Relieves positions when excessive workloads or shortages of personnel occur. Rotates through the laboratory performing the full range of procedures in the areas of Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Phlebotomy, and Microbiology as scheduled. Works with transfusion medicine with maintenance and validation of the blood bank software. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm Telework: Not Available.
