Job Description
Job Description
The Health Care Policy Analyst supports the TSG Advocates' policy and advocacy work through rigorous research, strong analytical writing, and close monitoring of the federal health care policy landscape. This role serves as a key contributor to the Policy & Research team by producing clear, accurate, and timely analysis that informs client strategy and strengthens advocacy efforts.
Working closely with the Director of Policy & Research and senior lobbyists, the Health Care Policy Analyst tracks legislative and regulatory developments, conducts policy research, and translates complex health care issues into accessible, client-ready materials. The position requires a strong understanding of how Congress and federal agencies develop policy, exceptional research and writing ability, attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
The successful candidate will take ownership of assigned research and writing projects while continuing to grow as a policy professional. The role also includes collaborating with and informally supporting junior analysts by modeling strong research practices, writing standards, and professional accountability.
Policy Analysis & Monitoring
- Track and analyze federal health care legislation, regulatory actions, and stakeholder activity relevant to client priorities.
- Monitor congressional committees, federal agencies, and policy developments, and assess implications for clients.
- Maintain working knowledge of key health care policy issues, including reimbursement, coverage, workforce, delivery systems, regulatory oversight, Medicare, and Medicaid.
- Conduct policy research and analysis using legislative text, regulatory materials, data sources, and policy literature.
- Draft high-quality policy products, including briefing memos, client updates, one-pagers, talking points, and background materials.
- Translate complex policy information into clear, concise, and client-ready analysis.
- Manage assigned projects from research through final delivery, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Support development of advocacy strategies by providing policy analysis, background research, and procedural insight.
- Prepare materials for congressional and agency meetings, hearings, and stakeholder engagement.
- Identify relevant committees, policymakers, and decision-making pathways affecting client priorities.
- Contribute policy analysis to internal strategy discussions and client engagements.
- Participate in client meetings as appropriate.
- Collaborate with colleagues across policy and government relations teams, and provide guidance to junior analysts when needed.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required, coursework in public policy, political science, health policy, economics, or a related field preferred.
- Advanced degree (MPH, MPP, JD, or similar) is a plus but not required.
- 2-5 years of relevant health care policy experience in Congress, a federal agency, government relations, trade association advocacy, or political campaigns.
- Exposure to federal legislative or regulatory processes required.
- Excellent analytical writing and research skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information clearly and efficiently on tight deadlines.
- Strong understanding of congressional procedures and the federal policymaking process.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritize deadlines, and operate with attention to detail.
- Self-motivated, collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, client-service environment.
- Interest in developing deeper health policy expertise and contributing to team success.
