Mainframe Developer (COBOL)

Role Overview

Apply your COBOL and mainframe expertise to help improve next-generation AI systems through accurate, real-world technical input. This remote contract role focuses on translating legacy-system knowledge into high-quality training data, evaluations, and feedback that strengthen how AI models learn, reason, and perform. Prior AI experience is not required.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze and interpret existing COBOL codebases to support the creation of AI training data.
• Document COBOL logic, workflows, and business rules clearly and accurately for AI-driven systems.
• Evaluate sample code and project scenarios, identifying edge cases, ambiguities, and technical considerations.
• Review and annotate COBOL scripts and pseudocode for robust machine learning datasets.
• Develop test cases and scenario outlines reflecting real-world COBOL applications.
• Collaborate with project coordinators and technical experts through clear written and verbal communication.
• Ensure submitted materials are technically accurate and complete.

Qualifications

• Proven COBOL development experience and deep proficiency across varied business domains.
• Strong analytical ability to interpret complex legacy systems and explain their functions.
• Ability to produce precise, user-friendly technical documentation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with close attention to detail.
• Familiarity with mainframe environments and related tools.
• Ability to work independently, manage deliverables, and meet milestones in a remote setting.
• Experience with large-scale migration, integration, or modernization projects is a plus.

Work Terms

• Remote, contract engagement.

Compensation

• $90 to $126 per hour.
