Sports Medicine Assistant - Full Time ($15,000 Sign-On Bonus) - New Orleans, LA

Up to $15,000 Sign‑On Bonus available for qualified candidates. Job Description This role supports a physician in a clinic setting by performing therapeutic procedures (wound care, crutch and gait training, casting, splinting, bracing) and instructing patients on exercise programs. The position also assists with evaluation, documentation, treatment planning, and care coordination, as well as surgical coordination and intraoperative patient care. In addition, the assistant conducts research and quality improvement projects and schedules diagnostic and physical therapy appointments per physician orders. Responsibilities Assist physicians with research and quality improvement initiatives. Educate patients on treatment plans, pathophysiology, anatomy, and clinical decision making. Gather patient medical history, perform focused clinical examinations, document findings, and place orders in the electronic medical record system following written order guidelines. Perform wound care, crutch and gait training, casting, splinting, bracing, and exercise instruction. Support physicians in both clinic and operative settings, working independently or under direct supervision as required. Adjust communication style to meet the needs of diverse patient populations, ensuring privacy and respectful interaction. Complete additional related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Allied Health. Preferred: Master’s Degree in Allied Health or Education. Work Experience Required: 3 years of related experience in a healthcare office, clinical setting, or other related medical area, including patient injury evaluation and assessment. Certifications Required: Certified Orthopedic Technologist (OTC). Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association. Preferred: Board of Certification (BOC) Certification. Preferred: State license in the state of practice. Preferred: Completion of SMA residency or equivalent program. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Excellent written, verbal, and follow‑up communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate in a team. Professional communication with patients, clinic staff, physicians, and departments. Ability to multitask with high attention to detail and complete tasks. Comfortable patient communication. Physical and Environmental Demands Requires the ability to lift, move, and transfer light to moderate weights. Frequent exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue, as well as potential exposure to hazardous medications and waste. Occupational risk for communicable diseases and other healthcare hazards.
