Nutrition & Wellness Specialist (Temporary) $7954 to $9854 Monthly ($45.71 - $56.63 Hourly) Most temporary positions do not include benefits or paid time off except as provided by law. This posting is for a temporary assignment opportunity. Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) is seeking candidates to fill a temporary assignment for the Nutrition and Wellness Specialist position. There is currently one 6-month limited-term assignment. The position requires the incumbent to possess a valid certification as a Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). This position provides technical assistance, training, and support to Local Education Agencies (LEAs) and schools in Los Angeles County to develop, expand, implement, and evaluate health and wellness policies and practices that advances whole child health using the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model. The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following Knowledge: Principles of nutrition, coordinated school health, local school wellness policies, and federal, state, and county laws and regulations Techniques and resources utilized in assessing and evaluating school community health and wellness needs Basic budgetary principles Principles and techniques of organization and administration Applicable state and federal laws and regulations and program procedures and guidelines related to coordinated school health, wellness, and nutrition Fundamental concepts of employment laws, codes, and regulations, including EEO, FLSA, FMLA, Cal/OSHA and applicable provisions of collective bargaining agreements Competencies: Analyzing and Interpreting Data – Drawing meaning and conclusions from quantitative or qualitative data Critical Thinking – Analytically and logically evaluating information, propositions, and claims Decision Making – Choosing optimal courses of action in a timely manner Legal and Regulatory Navigation – Understanding, interpreting, and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations Professional & Technical Expertise – Applying technical subject matter to the job Using Technology – Working with electronic hardware and software applications Adaptability – Responding positively to change and modifying behavior as the situation requires Professional Integrity & Ethics – Displaying honesty, adherence to principles, and personal accountability Oral Communication – Engaging effectively in dialogue Presentation Skill – Formally delivering information to groups Writing – Communicating effectively in writing Customer Focus – Attending to the needs and expectation of customers Involving Others – Engaging others for input, contribution, and shared responsibility for outcomes Relationship Building – Establishing rapport and maintaining mutually productive relationships Group Facilitation – Enabling constructive and productive group interaction Project Management – Ensuring that projects are on-time, on-budget, and achieve their objectives Cultural Proficiency – Modeling communications and interactions that respect and include all individuals and their languages, abilities, religions and cultures Required Education and Experience Education: A bachelor’s degree in nutrition science, dietetics, health education, human development, or other fields closely related to the job requirements of this classification from an institution of higher learning recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation. Foreign degrees and credit units require translation and equivalency established by an agency recognized by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Experience: Two years of experience implementing nutrition, health, or wellness strategies, intervention, and programs in a pre-k through 12thgrade school setting. Additional Requirements: Certification as a Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) or Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) is preferred. A valid California Driver’s License and the availability of private transportation or access to reliable transportation between job sites is required.
