IUM Education Supervisor

The IUM (Ili Uusim Mahtawa'apo Pascua Yaqui Head Start) Education Supervisor oversees the IUM Teachers and Co-Teachers educational instruction and related academic programs. Incumbents perform duties including: monitoring compliance with Head Start guidelines and procedures; maintaining and auditing related records; serving as a member of a trans-disciplinary team to assess and identify needs of children in the Ili Uusim program, performing quality reviews on lesson plans to ensure the principles are consistent with early childhood educational standards. Lastly, the Education Supervisor is responsible for evaluating the educational professionals at IUM. Responsibilities Supervises staff, conduct performance evaluations, ensure staff are trained; ensure that employees follow policies and procedures, maintain a healthy and safe working environment, and make hiring, termination and disciplinary recommendations. Monitor and evaluate lesson plans to ensure consistency with program guidelines and early childhood educational standards. Provide staff development training, model of instructional practices, support staff in current and effective strategies, and methodologies to holistically support early childhood students and their families. Participate in targeted professional growth activities. Assure adherence to the due process rights, procedural safeguards, and established compliance standards. Coordinate and monitor activities to ensure a smooth transition for children enrolling into the Head Start Program and from Head Start into elementary school. Develop and maintain policies and procedures relevant to program content, implementation, and Head Start performance standards. Plan educational programs with inter-disciplinary team of staff, parents and other coordinators, and supervise the implementation of planned activities. Serve as a liaison between parents, staff, and the Head Start Manager concerning any educational issues or concerns. Prepare annual assessment of equipment and material needed for classrooms. Prepare reports as requested. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director. Knowledge of Supervisory and budget management principles and practices; Child Development theories and practices, dealing with children ages 3 to 5 and their families; Current educational best practices related to children ages 3-5 and their families; Typical and atypical child development; Tribal, State and Federal laws as it relates to Education; Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and/or a willingness to learn. Skills and Abilities Leadership and supervisory principles; Early childhood education methods and practices; Referral agencies and programs; Head Start program rules and regulations; Applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations; Make independent judgments; Maintain confidentiality of information; Implement project goals with minimal supervision; Prioritize tasks and work independently; Render logical, clear, and effective written reports and oral presentations; Operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer and related software applications; Good communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, management, Council members, and the public. Have ability to sufficiently exchange or convey information and receive verbal and written work instructions. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Child Development or related field, five (5) years of early childhood development education or related program experience, and two (2) years of lead or supervisory experience. A Master's Degree in Education can be substituted for two (2) years of Early Childhood/ Elementary Education experience. AND A Master's in Educational Leadership is preferred; Bilingual in English/Spanish is required, Haiki preferred; Experience working with Yoeme or American Indian communities, preferred; Special Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License; TB Clearance required; CPR and First Aide required; Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card.
