3rd Shift Maintenance Supervisor

Shift: Third Shift Job Type: Full-Time Reports To: Chief Engineer, Assistant Engineer, and Controls Engineer

Position Overview

Spectra360 is sourcing qualified candidates for a Third-Shift Maintenance Supervisor position with our client, an established food manufacturing organization.

This hands-on leadership role is responsible for supervising and developing maintenance mechanics while ensuring production equipment is properly maintained, repaired, and available for operation. The Maintenance Supervisor will oversee preventive maintenance, work orders, emergency repairs, employee scheduling, and maintenance activities throughout the facility.

The ideal candidate will have food manufacturing maintenance experience, strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities, and the leadership skills needed to train and guide a maintenance team in a fast-paced production environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise, support, and provide daily direction to third-shift maintenance mechanics.
• Monitor preventive maintenance tasks, work orders, and emergency repairs to ensure they are completed correctly and on time.
• Inspect operating equipment and identify repairs that can be completed during scheduled downtime.
• Respond promptly to maintenance calls and arrive prepared to diagnose and repair equipment issues.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems on automated production equipment.
• Remain visible and readily available on the production floor to support maintenance and operational needs.
• Work individually with mechanics to identify opportunities for improvement and strengthen their technical abilities.
• Support mechanic training and development programs to help employees qualify for advancement opportunities.
• Evaluate employee performance and track progress in troubleshooting, equipment maintenance, and repair skills.
• Work closely with production supervisors to address equipment concerns and minimize operational downtime.
• Schedule mechanics and coordinate shift coverage based on production and maintenance needs.
• Review and submit payroll information accurately and on time.
• Participate in operational shift meetings, safety meetings, food-safety meetings, facility inspections, and related activities.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized working environment in the maintenance shop and throughout the production floor.
• Follow all workplace safety, food-safety, sanitation, and quality procedures.
• Exercise exceptional attention to detail when working on equipment located near food products or production areas.
• Perform additional maintenance and supervisory duties as assigned.
• Must be willing and able to work different shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least two years of experience as an industrial maintenance mechanic.
• Previous maintenance experience in the food manufacturing industry required.
• Baking or commercial bakery experience is strongly preferred.
• Previous supervisory, lead, or team-training experience preferred.
• Strong leadership and employee-development skills.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on repair abilities.
• Experience troubleshooting and repairing automated production equipment.
• Working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
• Electrical troubleshooting experience required.
• Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance requests in a fast-paced production environment.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively with maintenance, production, engineering, safety, and quality teams.
• Food-safety-focused mindset with excellent attention to detail.
• Dependable attendance and the ability to work the assigned third-shift schedule.

Tools Requirement

The Maintenance Supervisor must provide and maintain a personal set of standard hand tools, including but not limited to:

• Wrench sets
• Socket sets
• Pliers
• Hammers
• Punches
• Other commonly used maintenance hand tools

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

Candidates must be able to:

• Lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
• Stand and walk for extended periods.
• Bend, reach, kneel, climb, and work around industrial equipment.
• Work in hot production environments.
• Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns and maintenance emergencies.
• Safely perform hands-on troubleshooting and repairs throughout the facility.
