Together, we're improving health and improving lives.Labcorp is seeking a Cytogenetics Technologist II to join our team at in Torrance, CA.Work Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday 2pm-10:30pmThis position is primarily focused on Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) testing and analysis, including both wet laboratory procedures and interpretation of results for hematologic (heme) and formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) specimens.Job ResponsibilitiesPerform routine procedures including tissue culture, harvesting, slide making and banding, automated karyotyping, reagent preparation, and FISH processing, probing, and scoping.Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteriaPerform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating ProceduresMonitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionalityDemonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controlsReport accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient carePerform and document preventive maintenance and quality control proceduresIdentify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessaryAssist with processing of specimens when neededMaintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipmentMinimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical TechnologyThree years or more of clinical laboratory testing experienceOne year of experience performing FISH wet lab and FISH analysis.California Clinical Cytogeneticist Scientist LicensePreferred QualificationsThree years of experience performing FISH wet laboratory testing and FISH analysis.Three years performing and interpreting FISH assays on both hematologic (heme) and FFPE specimens.Scientist in Cytogenetics - CG(ASCP)Additional Job StandardsIn lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirementsUnderstanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and proceduresExperience working in a high volume laboratory environmentAbility to work independently and within a team environmentProficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systemsHigh level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skillsAbility to handle the physical requirements of the positionAble to pass a standardized color blindness testFlexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needsDemonstrated ability to troubleshoot assays, resolve technical issues, and maintain high-quality laboratory performance.Pay Range: $23.00-$36.23All job offers will be based on a candidate's skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.Benefits: Employees regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week are eligible for comprehensive benefits including: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, STD/LTD, 401(k), Paid Time Off (PTO) or Flexible Time Off (FTO), Tuition Reimbursement and Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
