About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Labor & Delivery Duration: 15 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours (6:45 AM - 7:15 PM), every other weekend Experience: Two (2) years of acute care RN experience required License: Registered Nurse Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, EFM required Must-Have: Epic experience Description: A professional nurse is accountable for the care of a group of patients. The Registered Nurse (RN) focuses on safe, effective patient and family-centered care, customer satisfaction, and quality outcomes. The RN is responsible for assisting in maintaining a financially stable unit. The RN promotes his/her development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and education supported by a Practice Governance framework. The RN supervises licensed and non-licensed staff members. Applying the caring processes of the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care, the RN has the responsibility to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate the plan of care. The RN focuses on patient and family comforts, education, and satisfaction. The RN applies his/her educational and professional experiences in the delivery of quality care and mentoring/precepting staff. Assessment: Performs assessments and reassessments per policy and procedure or as warranted by patient condition. Demonstrates the ability to make sound independent decisions. Development & Implementation: Initiates, prioritizes, and implements the plan of care and reviews and revises the plan as indicated. Collaborates with patient/family and interdisciplinary services. Utilizes resources appropriately to support the needs of the organization, patient, and family. Evaluation: Monitors and documents response to clinical interventions. Education: Facilitates, coordinates, provides, and evaluates education specific to patient/family needs. Provides appropriate care, treatment, and services during their stay and at discharge. Leadership: Delegates tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel. Functions as a mentor and preceptor. Demonstrates, encourages, and facilitates teamwork. Identifies and appropriately communicates opportunities for improvement. Participates in quality, safety, and service process improvement efforts and implements practice changes. Complies with regulatory standards and participates in the Practice Governance model. Is knowledgeable about activities that facilitate intra/interdepartmental collaboration. Participates in the development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement activities. Effectively uses communication systems. Participates in promoting cost-effective care. Gives feedback to co-workers. Is aware of public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting the healthcare environment. Promotes a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment for all. Patient Assessment: Recognizes data from complex situations to determine priorities for care. Includes appropriate physical, psychosocial, education, and safety needs. Synthesizes assessment data into meaningful whole prior to communication to others. Assesses and anticipates discharge needs of individual patients and families. Develops relationships with families that promote their ability to advocate for the patient and their own needs. Planning: Collaborates with patient/family to prepare or update the plan of care. Makes use of available multidisciplinary resources in planning care. Begins to use a full range of communication as a means to convey planning. Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic issues in planning patient care. Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems. Research: Reads journals that contain studies or articles applicable to practice. Brings ideas and questions to the staff for assessment of applicability.
