Salary: $53,095 (Based on years in PSERS)
2026-2027 School Year
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
- Valid PA Department of Education certificate.
- Clinical Competency Certificate, preferred.
- Demonstrate proficiency using technology for computer assisted management and intervention programs with students.
- Such alternatives to the above as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Reports To: Building Principal, Supervisor of Special Education, and Director of Student Services
Job Goal: To provide remedial services to students with speech, language, voice, eating, swallowing, fluency, or hearing difficulties. Improve their methods of expressive/receptive communication and eventually attain appropriate speech or language skills. The speech and language therapist will also implement strategies and interventions to support students in improving their expressive/receptive communication.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Provide Level I, II, and III screening for students who may have speech/language difficulties.
- Level I: mass screening of an entire group of children
- Level II: screening due to a referral by a parent, teacher, or other professional
- Level III: direct interaction of the speech therapist with students as part of the response to intervention and instruction process or special education evaluation process.
- Participate in school-based screening process.
- Facilitate and participate in the evaluation report process for all students who receive speech and language as a related service.
- Assume role as chairperson of the evaluation/reevaluation process for students who have a speech and language disability as the sole reason for special education.
- Develop Individualized Educational Plans (IEP) for all students identified as having speech and language disabilities.
- Communicate with special education teachers regarding re-evaluation and IEP needs for students with speech/language impairments.
- Provide a program of therapy in individual, small group, or classroom sessions.
- Communicate student progress to parents, teachers, and IEP team members.
- Cooperate with professional agencies.
- Prepare therapy materials, diagnostic reports, and therapy plans.
- Maintain comprehensive records and updated class lists.
- Inform the community of program availability and goals. Present information to parent groups, PTA, teacher groups/school administrators, and professional organizations.
- Perform classroom observations and visitations.
- Attend faculty and staff meetings.
- Refer, evaluate, and implement assistive technology goals when appropriate.
- Implement and support English as a Second Language program in cooperation with elementary and middle school ESL teachers.
- Any other duties assigned by the Superintendent or their designee.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Language Skills:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
