Position Title Patient Advocacy Specialist (26141652) Department of Public Health & Human Services, Montana State Hospital, Quality Improvement Department. Responsibilities Investigate all-level patient-related complaints, grievances, and allegations of abuse and neglect. Review federal and state regulations related to health care services to evaluate violations, assess compliance, and devise improvement actions. Conduct root cause analysis and facilitate department managers and directors with plans of corrections for timely resolution, violation prevention, and improvement efforts. Qualifications Extensive knowledge of CMS and Joint Commission regulations related to patient rights and grievances. Strong understanding of healthcare regulatory requirements and industry practices. Working knowledge of state and federal requirements affecting acute psychiatric facilities. Ability to manage patient complaint grievance program consistent with established regulations and policies. Experience developing and implementing improvement activities. Strong skills in active listening, communication (verbal and written), investigative techniques, reading comprehension, public speaking, report writing, and critical thinking/inductive reasoning. Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple tasks and projects. Proficient with typical office programs such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience) Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare, Public Health, or Community Services related field. Recent relevant experience (within 3 years) may substitute education on a year-for-year basis. At least 3 years of work experience within healthcare regulations/implementation, compliance, and patient satisfaction/grievances. Patient Safety certificate or credential from a nationally accredited organization preferred. Experience working directly with patient advocacy issues within the past 2 years preferred. Experience with developing and conducting training related to grievances or investigations preferred. Other combinations of education, experience, or credentials may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
