Summary The primary purpose of this position is to serve organizationally as a Digital Communications Specialist who is responsible for drafting and executing modern and engaging content for DOJ's digital communications programs within guidelines and policies as determined by the Chief Digital Communications Officer. Duties The duties and responsibilities for a GS-1035-Public Affairs Specialist generally include, but are not limited to, the following: Assists the Chief Digital Communications Officer with planning social media strategies and content to communicate Department of Justice communication focus areas and priorities. Plans and creates multimedia content using graphic design, photo manipulation, and video editing software and techniques. Assists with providing social media training to DOJ-wide public affairs officers and DOJ senior leadership as needed. Researches new and innovative tools, programs, systems, software, services, and social media industry trends to maintain the Office's currency and relevance with social media efforts and strategies. Analyzes and monitors social media metrics to assess the effectiveness of content and engagement strategies, making data-driven adjustments to optimize audience reach and impact. Qualifications To qualify for the position of Public Affairs Specialist (Digital Communications Specialist), at GS-1035-11, you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below. Specialized Experience: For the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-09 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) Coordinating social media coverage of communication events and/or efforts such as press conferences; and 2) Identifying innovative tools or strategies to stay relevant in social media. OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You MUST meet all qualification requirements, including time-in-grade, by the 07/27/2026 of this announcement.
