Position Summary Control Technician 4 is responsible for the fabrication of control panels, field installation and commissioning procedures associated with control panels and field instrumentation, troubleshooting and calibration of field instruments, equipment, and control panels, testing and analysis, documentation and updating drawings of finished control panels, and care of all company‑provided shop tools, meters, and other equipment. Responsibilities Follow verbal instructions and read work orders, diagrams, and wire lists to determine materials needed and sequence of assembly. Perform sheet metal work, punching holes, wiring, painting, and welding. Provide on‑the‑job training to new employees. Understand and follow company procedures for ordering, storing, receiving, and returning materials and tools. Ensure work is completed as per schedule and quality goals are achieved. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED with 7+ years of relevant experience. Certifications Obtain, at the company’s expense, a CPR and First Aid certification within six (6) months of hire and maintain this status while employed. Pass a background investigation and drug test. Ability to select various control components needed in fabrication of control panels and prepare a BOM from specifications and/or NEC/UL508A standards. Ability to size circuit breakers and fuses for control and power circuits according to specifications and NEC standards. Ability to fabricate control panels including design, layout, and installation of components. Experience with installation and troubleshooting of Building Automation Systems (DDC, Distech, Siemens, Niagara). Ability to install, wire, and test wiring of PLCs, VFDs, and other solid‑state control components. Wire control panels and equipment, test circuitry according to specifications and drawings, commission and document completed control panels or circuits as necessary. Knowledge and use of multi‑function meters and various test equipment needed for projects. Understanding of various industrial automation and control schemes. Ability to troubleshoot, replace, install, and relocate industrial control circuits and components within active industrial manufacturing processes and environments. Tool Use Various power tools including drills, saws, punch sets utilizing corded, cordless, and hydraulic methods. Corded and cordless drills. Corded and cordless saws. Hydraulic and hand punch sets. Fluke 787 Process Meter. Fluke 87 Multimeter or equivalent. Hi‑Pot. Megagar. Relay tester. Resistance tester. Ground tester. Oscilloscope. Use of laptop PCs with various manufacturer's software packages to check wiring circuits/controls and test PLCs, VFDs, and other solid‑state components. Abilities Ability to lift, carry, and move objects up to 50 pounds regularly; demonstrate physical strength and stamina. Relocate a 12‑foot stepladder without assistance. Work at heights up to 60 feet and climb/maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and ladders. Perform walk, climb, lift, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, and reach overhead tasks routinely. Possess good vision (may be corrected), ability to see in color, and ability to hear and communicate in English. Use a standard ladder without exceeding weight limits while carrying tools. Recognize when something is wrong or likely to go wrong; apply general rules to specific problems to produce clear answers. Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions.
