Instructional Designer I Job Title: Instructional Designer I Department: Law Enforcement and Protective Services Location: Bryan, Texas Position Type: Staff Proposed Minimum Salary: $3,937.50 per month The Role at a Glance The Instructional Designer I will join a team of curriculum experts developing online and face‑to‑face courses at the Law Enforcement & Protective Services Training Division located at the Texas A&M RELLIS Campus. The team maintains a suite of courses for law enforcement, forensics, explosives, emergency communications, security, and corrections personnel. In this role you will execute an established curriculum development process that includes collaborating with Subject Matter Experts (SME) and design team members to identify training needs, prepare learning objectives, and define and sequence course content for classroom and online learning. You will also review and update existing programs, adapt courses to changing industry needs, and collaborate with curriculum leadership to manage project requirements, lead development meetings, and track project progress within budget and timeline constraints. Essential Job Duties Design, develop, and deploy curriculum for traditional classroom training delivery programs and format content/graphics using prescribed software (80%). Facilitate working meetings assigned to phased curriculum development efforts. Design course materials for both the student and the instructor. Support the creation of all course objectives. Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and originality of technical documentation. Create course activities to reinforce all learning objectives. Develop and revise course presentation slides and instructional visual aids to maintain alignment with course goals and objectives. Format and edit training manuals and other associated training materials. Prepare and submit curriculum drafts for review by the development team. Conduct focused technical reviews of all curriculum materials received, ensuring proper usage of terminology, style, direction, content, grammar, diction, punctuation, and clarity; recommend revisions or changes to scope, format, and content to ensure standardization. Prepare documents for professional printing or publishing through other means as specified by the curriculum manager. Lead curriculum design team (15%): promote collaboration, partnerships, and relationships among design team members. Work with subject matter experts, instructors, and other design team members to ensure accuracy and validity of training design and methodology. Ensure alignment exists between the curriculum, testing, and applicable standards. Research and structure instructional design projects (5%): establish project scope, timeline, goals and objectives; research available resources, permissions, and curriculum; monitor project progress and deliver required reports. Qualifications of the Role Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university; no experience required with a bachelor’s degree in an applicable field. Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment. Equivalency: an associate’s degree with two years of experience in training, curriculum development, and adult learning principles, OR a high school diploma/GED with four years of experience in training, curriculum development, and adult learning principles.
