Upon successful completion of the Basic Parole Agent Academy, the incumbent will be under the supervision of the Parole Agent II (Supervisor) and/or Parole Agent III (Unit Supervisor), Adult Parole. The incumbent is responsible for the supervision and casework services of parolees assigned to a field unit. Agents supervise and monitor behavior, investigate parole violations, and apprehend and arrest parolees. Agents work with local resources to link parolees to appropriate programming to assist with community reintegration. Agents work with members of the parolee's family and significant social networks to change dysfunctional social patterns and restore healthy functioning within the family system. Agents may be required to work irregular shifts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
All applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the Parole Agent I, Adult Parole classification set forth by the California Department of Human Resources. Applicants must meet the experience and education requirements for either Pattern I or Pattern II as listed on the Parole Agent I, Adult Parole class specification located on the right. Experience and education must clearly be defined and any applicable documents (i.e. college transcripts/diploma) must be submitted with your state application.
Basic Parole Agent Academy (BPAA)
- Candidates receiving and accepting assignments as a Parole Agent I (PA I) must complete a comprehensive training program at the BPAA located in Galt, a suburb of Sacramento, California.
- Candidates are encouraged to refresh/develop their analytical, writing and memory retention skills; maintain their physical fitness; and take a weapons/firearms course prior to reporting to the BPAA.
- Failure to pass the BPAA will result in rejection during probation from the PA I classification.
- Upon successful completion of the BPAA, PA Is report directly to their assigned parole unit.
Special Requirements for Non-Peace Officers:
Candidates new to CDCR or non-sworn CDCR staff are required to submit to a background investigation prior to appointment into the Parole Agent I classification.
- The position(s) require(s) Medical Clearance, Psychological Evaluation Clearance, Live Scan fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by departmental annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
- The position(s) require(s) Computerized Voice Stress Analyzer (CVSA), which is a truth verification device similar to a polygraph. All information you provide on your Personal History Statement, or during an interview, may be subject to a CVSA evaluation at any time during the selection process.
- Official transcripts (sealed) are required for Non-Peace Officer Candidates that require a background investigation.
