Behavioral Health Technician - Inpatient Medicine - 36 hrs - day/night

The Behavioral Health Technician will be responsible for:

• Providing one-on-one support, as needed, to patients with a variety of behavioral health needs.
• Closely monitoring and maintaining the safety of patients. Observing behaviors and conditions in accordance with established procedures and protocols.
• In conjunction with Registered Nurse, conducting environmental checks and helping identify risk factors.
• Aiding with the implementation of safety measures, such as physical restraints, observation levels, and suicide watches, as warranted.
• Responding to and assisting with de-escalating acute behavioral episodes in a therapeutic and supportive manner. Attempting to understand the source of distress.
• Under the direction of Registered Nurse and medical staff, preventing elopement and calling for support/assistance when necessary to assist in preventing elopement.
• Identifying patient behaviors that could lead to behavioral escalation and utilizing non-verbal and verbal techniques to de-escalate situations.
• Actively monitoring patients and the environment with particular attention to safety concerns.
• May perform vital signs and assist with Activities of Daily Living as directed by the Registered Nurse.
• Completing patient care documentation and administrative duties.
• Under the direction of Registered Nurse, may assist practitioners performing medical procedures.
• Working a schedule of day/night rotating and every third weekend; 36 hours per week. Must have flexibility to work during the week as well as every third weekend, rotating day shifts and overnight shifts.

To qualify, you must have:

• High School Diploma/GED, Associate's Degree preferred
• BLS (Basic Life Support) within three months of hire
• Welle De-escalation training within six months of hire
• Six months of practical experience in a behavioral health or educational setting preferred
