Postdoctoral Research Associate - Electric Power System

A Postdoctoral Research Associate is needed for the Interdisciplinary Science (IS) Department at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). The appointment is a one‑year position with the possibility of a one‑year renewal. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform cyber‑physical system modeling and simulation for the power grid. Conduct research on power system dynamics and control under high inverter‑based resources (IBRs). Develop and apply artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML) techniques for power system planning, operation, control, and cybersecurity. Position Requirements Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities A Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field with broad knowledge of electric power systems. Experience with cyber‑power system modeling, simulation, dynamics, and programming in Python and/or MATLAB. A strong background in AI/ML applications in the power grid. Good written and oral communication skills. Ability to take direction and work collaboratively within a project team. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Experience with cybersecurity of energy systems and commonly used tools such as OPAL‑RT/RTDS, PSS/E, PSCAD, EXata. Knowledge of cybersecurity of industrial control systems and/or quantum computing. Additional Information Candidates must receive a Ph.D. by the commencement of employment. Eligible applicants may not exceed 5 years of post‑doctoral or R&D experience after Ph.D., excluding time for family planning, military service, illness, or other life‑changing events. Salary range: $70,200 – $85,000, commensurate with qualifications, education, and experience.
