St. Charles Parish Hospital Respiratory Therapist - PRN (CRT/RRT)

This position provides respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing and ventilation support services to both in‑patients and out‑patients ranging in age from neonatal to geriatric. The Respiratory Therapy—Clinical Respiratory Technician (RT‑CRT) handles set‑ups, monitors and weaning of oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation; draws, analyzes and reports arterial blood gases and EKGs; delivers intermittent therapy and assists with changing artificial airways. Services are delivered as ordered by a physician and in accordance with established policies and procedures. Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily: Performs routine and advanced therapeutic procedures according to established policy and procedure. Reviews and documents all clinical information regarding each patient. Educates patients and co‑workers on procedures and treatment plans. Performs diagnostic procedures. Provides care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to the age of patient served in the assigned area. Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, respecting privacy, introducing yourself appropriately, tailoring explanations of services or procedures, and requesting permissions and adapting communication style. Qualifications Education Required: Associate's Degree. Preferred: Bachelor's Degree. Work Experience Required: None. Certifications Required: Current Licensed Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice; Registered Respiratory Therapist (National Board of Respiratory Care); Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association. Additional: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) must be obtained within 90 days of hire. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information. Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally. Proficiency with Windows‑style applications, various software packages specific to the role and keyboard. Strong interpersonal skills. Physical and Environmental Demands Physical demands include occasional exertion of over 100 pounds of force, frequent exertion of over 50 pounds of force, and constant exertion of over 20 pounds of force to move objects. The job requires stooping, bending, reaching, grabbing, sitting or standing for prolonged periods; traveling throughout and between facilities; and working a flexible schedule (24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability). Exposure to blood, body fluids and tissue is routine.
