No Nevada state income tax. Job Summary The Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA), Division of Measurement Standards, seeks a Weights and Measures Inspector II in Las Vegas. The role involves checking net content of packaged goods, price verification, regulating advertising and sale of commodities, responding to complaints about devices and pricing, and enforcing state regulations. Work is mainly field based with extensive travel within the territory, including overnight stays up to 25% of the time and travel outside Nevada for training. The position is subject to CDL requirements and federal controlled‑substance screening. Responsibilities Test gasoline dispensers, linear and petroleum gas measuring devices, scales, and meters; check equipment for wear, malfunction, and compliance; verify accuracy; record data; calculate tolerances; release non‑compliant devices to protect the public and businesses. Perform petroleum inspections, verify advertising and labeling, obtain samples for lab analysis, and confirm brand registration to prevent fraud and protect the environment. Investigate violations and consumer complaints; complete interviews; evaluate data; prepare investigative reports; recommend corrective actions; collect and safeguard evidence; report to enforcement agencies as needed. Maintain testing equipment and standards; perform preventive and minor maintenance; calibrate against official state standards. Audit public weighmasters; review certificates; verify transaction accuracy; test weighing devices. Verify retailer prices to ensure point of sale matches advertised price. Prepare and maintain files, records, and reports; file inspection documents; document complaints; submit work activity reports; list businesses; develop annual inspection schedules; account for fees and plan future activities. Perform related duties as assigned; provide field training to new personnel. Essential Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in science, mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering, agriculture, or closely related field, plus 1 year of experience in inspection, maintenance, or installation of mechanical or electrical equipment including weighing and/or measuring devices and applying weights and measures regulations. OR associate’s degree in a related field plus 2 years of such experience. OR high school diploma plus 3 years of applicable work experience, at least 1 year in the above described role. OR 1 year as a Weights and Measures Inspector I in Nevada State service. OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Detailed knowledge of weighing and measuring devices and businesses that use them. Working knowledge of NIST Handbook 44 and 133. Ability to use technical test equipment, read and interpret technical manuals and adopted handbooks, develop procedures, correspond with regulated industries, perform measurement operations using customary and metric units, supervise personnel, utilize resources efficiently, and mediate between parties.
