About The Position The Milken Institute is seeking a Senior Associate/Associate Director to administer the Global Financial Scholars Programs and help shape the 10‑Year Anniversary Campaign. The role will support the Milken Institute’s Africa strategy, expanding visibility, fundraising, and communications for flagship initiatives. Based in Washington, DC, the candidate will report to the Senior Director for Africa in Los Angeles and work closely with partners in Washington, DC, London, and throughout Africa. Responsibilities Lead day‑to‑day program management of the Scholars Programs in Washington DC and London, including: Representing MI in partner discussions and events with Georgetown University, IFC/World Bank, and others. Coordinating online and in‑person meetings, speaker series, internship matching, and learning webinars. Maintaining paperwork: internship offer letters, pledge agreements, invoices, and other program documentation. Troubleshooting scholar logistics for US and UK cohorts. Help shape and execute the 10‑Year Anniversary Campaign of Global Financial Scholars, including: Researching, outreach, and relationship building with key prospects and donors. Supporting event planning and logistics for the 10‑Year Anniversary Gala Dinner in New York (Sept 2026) and the fifth Alumni Retreat (Africa, Mar 2027). Contributing to campaign marketing, communications, impact reports, videos, social media, and press efforts. Drive stakeholder and relationship management with corporate and philanthropic partners, including: Expanding outreach and stewardship for speakers and internship hosts. Maintaining a fundraising database and creating proposals for prospect donors. Serving as point of contact for Scholars Programs, managing communications, quarterly calls, and newsletter materials. Contribute to new programmatic offerings and alumni engagement, including: Coordinating policy dialogue events for Kenya Chapter. Launching learning series on AI, geopolitics, and other topics. Conceptualizing mentorship programs between corporate partners and alumni. Supporting senior leadership with special projects and MI Africa’s participation in institute events. Additional assigned duties. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required; 3‑5 years of relevant experience. Experience working with developing and emerging economies, especially in Africa, with strong financial‑policy knowledge and a network in the US/UK financial industry. Experience with event planning, business development, fundraising, and communications campaigns. Exceptional communication, relationship‑building, and representation skills for high‑profile events and CEO‑level prospects. Excellent organizational skills, juggling concurrent projects and meeting deadlines. Entrepreneurial initiative, independent and collaborative mindset, with a “no task is too small” attitude. Detail orientation, especially for sensitive or personal information. Experience with project‑management software and databases (Salesforce, Microsoft 365) is a plus. Priority for candidates with strong background working with African stakeholders. Working Conditions & Travel Requirements This position will work in a professional office environment on a hybrid schedule: three days in‑person at the Washington, DC office (Tuesday—Thursday) and two days remote. The schedule may change at the Institute’s discretion. Occasional travel for events, both domestic and international, and virtual collaboration with staff worldwide will be required.
