Duties Duties Will Include, But Are Not Limited To: Preparing various legal documents such as motions, briefs, affidavits, and pleadings; proofreads and cite-checks legal briefs and assembles tables of authorities and tables of contents for legal briefs; Assisting in conducting factual research on individuals and companies using computerized databases and other sources. Completing administrative legal functions, organizes files, and manages electronic documents and evidence. Providing technical assistance to litigation teams on legal automation requirements and systems capabilities to develop and facilitate litigation decisions, trial preparation and trial presentation. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Requirements Conditions of employment You must be a U.S. Citizen or National Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period. You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement. Qualifications To be eligible at the GS-07 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions: Specialized Experience You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: providing trial support to attorneys by preparing complaints, motions, subpoenas, orders, or other hearing and/or trial documents accurately and in proper format; verifying citations and statutory references contained in legal documents; assisting with discovery, hearing or trial preparation by performing duties such as compiling trial notebooks, assembling jury instructions, and compiling witness and exhibit lists; and/or using software applications and legal and non-legal databases to produce legal related reports and documents, conduct factual research, and prepare courtroom presentations. Education One (1) full year of progressively higher-level graduate education leading such to a degree in a related field (e.g., Legal Studies, Law, Criminal Justice). Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. Combining Education and Experience Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. GS-09: To be eligible at the GS-09 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions: Specialized Experience You must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level. Specialized experience is defined as: experience reviewing legal documents such as complaints, motions, orders, answers, pleadings, subpoenas, and libels for completeness of information; retrieving and assembling information for hearing and/or trial use; researching a variety of legal sources to obtain and/or verify information; knowledge of litigation support principles and processes; and using automated software to produce legal related reports, documents, correspondence, and related materials. Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Law, Information Technology, Computer Science): a Master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B. or J.D.); OR two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Combining Education and Experience: Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy. To be well-qualified, you must satisfy all qualification requirements for the vacant position and receive a score of 85 or better on established ranking criteria. You must provide proof of eligibility to receive selection priority. Such proof may include a copy of your written notification of ICTAP eligibility or a copy of your separation personnel action form.
