Responsible for performance of all speech‑language, communicative, and swallowing diagnostic and rehabilitative procedures on inpatients and outpatients; specifically, conducts evaluations and analyzes the results to diagnose the disorder; recommends and conducts appropriate rehabilitation intervention; counsels the patient and family (as approved by the patient) as to the current status of the patient and plans appropriate intervention to address the specific needs of the patient; writes reports on all diagnostic and rehabilitative procedures in the EMR. EEO/AA/Disability/Veteran Responsibilities Clinical Interpret physician referrals to perform basic clinical evaluations. All patient care responsibilities performed consistent with age‑specific criteria. Demonstrate technical skill and accuracy in performing basic treatments. Develop population‑specific treatment programs that comply with established clinical protocols, monitor patient responses, and terminate treatments when appropriate. Set measurable and appropriate goals that reflect patient/family involvement and seek appropriate assistance. Provide patient and family education. Initiate and maintain current records and reports concerning patient course, re‑evaluate and update goals, and plan as necessary based on patient’s response to treatment. Use equipment in a safe and effective manner. Report malfunctioning or missing equipment to supervisor and take corrective action to remove equipment from use. Assume responsibility for order of working areas. Maintain a high standard of professional accountability with respect to safety, efficiency, effectiveness, ethics, and legal issues. Demonstrate compliance with all hospital standards and regulations. Participate constructively in team conferences, rounds, clinics, and discharge planning, as appropriate. Utilize assistant and support staff and volunteers appropriately in delivering patient care. Educational Attend department in‑services. Assist with orientation of staff as appropriate. Assist in orientation, education, and guidance of support staff. Seek opportunities to expand own knowledge of the profession and related fields. Meet required standards for documentation of attended in‑services and continuing contact hours when applicable. Administration Comply with hospital and department policies and procedures. Participate in department quality assurance activities. Plan and organize daily schedule to use time optimally. Appropriately address patient coverage issues for scheduled time off. Carry patient load that reflects productivity standard of unit. Maintain documentation in accordance with hospital policy and regulatory requirements (HCFA, JCAHO, etc.). Clinical Supervision Participate in regular meetings with supervisor and/or team leader and report pertinent information on a timely basis. Appropriately delegate responsibility to students and CFY's as required and maintain an appropriate level of clinical supervision. Report directly to area supervisor and indirectly to team leader. Provide clinical supervision to students as assigned. Human Relations Skills Demonstrate respect and regard for dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsive, and courteous hospital environment. Qualifications EDUCATION Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology; Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology completed

EXPERIENCE

One (1) to two (2) years as a clinical speech language pathologist in a large medical center based practice preferred. Experience working with children and/or adults depending on the assigned setting. Clinical experience with a variety of diagnoses to include post‑surgical, developmental, neurological, genetic, oncologic and traumatic.

LICENSURE

Must maintain a current unrestricted license to practice as a Speech‑Language Pathologist in CT.

SPECIAL SKILLS
