Description:
A professional nurse is accountable for the care of a group of patients.
The Registered Nurse focuses on safe, effective, patient and family-centered care, customer satisfaction, and quality outcomes.
The RN is responsible for maintaining a financially stable unit and promoting personal development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and education.
The RN supervises licensed and non-licensed staff members.
The RN has the responsibility to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate the plan of care.
The RN focuses on patient and family comfort, education, and satisfaction.
The RN applies educational and professional experiences in the delivery of quality care and mentoring/precepting staff.
Job responsibilities include:
- Performing assessments and reassessments per policy and procedure or as warranted by patient condition.
- Demonstrating the ability to make sound independent decisions.
- Initiating, prioritizing, and implementing the plan of care, and reviewing and revising the plan as indicated.
- Collaborating with patients, families, and interdisciplinary services.
- Utilizing resources appropriately to support the needs of the organization, patients, and families.
- Monitoring and documenting responses to clinical interventions.
- Facilitating, coordinating, providing, and evaluating education specific to patient and family needs.
- Delegating tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel.
- Functioning as a mentor and preceptor.
- Encouraging and facilitating teamwork.
- Identifying and communicating opportunities for improvement.
- Participating in quality, safety, and service process improvement efforts and implementing practice changes.
- Complying with regulatory standards.
- Promoting a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment for all.
- Recognizing data from complex situations to determine priorities for care.
- Synthesizing assessment data into meaningful whole prior to communication to others.
- Assessing and anticipating discharge needs of individual patients and families.
- Collaborating with patients and families to prepare or update the plan of care.
- Using available multidisciplinary resources in planning care.
- Identifying and addressing cultural and ethnic issues in planning patient care.
- Demonstrating the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems.
- Reading journals that contain studies or articles that may be applicable to practice.
- Bringing ideas and questions to the staff for assessment of applicability.
