HFI Assure-Houston Lab Aspire HFI - Houston Lab | 628S 2500 Fondren Rd Suite 350 Houston, TX 77063, USA Under general direction of the Laboratory Supervisor or Director, the Embryologist II or III performs advanced technical clinical and research duties in the embryology laboratory. Interacts directly with physicians and demonstrates ability to use own judgement in making decisions regarding lab procedures. Interfaces with the research and andrology components of the IVF Program to advance Laboratory technologies. The Embryologist III role includes daily oversight and training of embryologists, with a focus on ensuring quality outcomes and an excellent patient experience. The Embryologist III collaborates closely with the Laboratory Director, Supervisor, other team members, and employees from different departments. Responsibilities Conduct the full range of basic and advanced Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) laboratory procedures. Prepare serum/media with accuracy and impeccable attention to detail. Prepare sperm for ICSI and for conventional insemination. Perform egg retrievals and cumulus cell removal. Perform both conventional and ICSI inseminations, meeting established percentage goals for fertilization. Complete fertilization checks for conventional insemination and ICSI. Successfully perform embryo grading to select embryos for transfer, meeting goals established by Lab Director, including passing proficiency testing as stated in the SOP. Successfully perform embryo warming and transfers, measured by the pregnancy rate per transfer. Conduct procedures of egg and embryo vitrification with meticulous attention to detail. Proficiency is measured by the percentage of recovered eggs/embryos and survival of warmed eggs/embryos. Conduct advanced IVF procedures (including ICSI, embryo biopsy, tubing, oocyte vitrification and oocyte warming). Conduct daily quality control activities. Ensure documentation is accurate and completed in a timely manner. Maintain a clean and operating laboratory, monitor tank maintenance, cleaning, equipment, and inventory control. Comply with regulations and laws for human ART in the U.S. and applicable state, adhere to the policies, procedures, and rules of our Company, and assure that work is performed in accordance with American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) standards. Work collaboratively with the Lab Director and lab team to proactively identify evolving “best practices” as well as areas for improvement in laboratory processes and department operations. Meticulously follow detailed laboratory standard operating procedures and comply with all safety policies. Meet quality standards and numerical goals for laboratory procedures, as set by the Lab Director. Consult with physicians as needed. Ensure that the laboratory always has appropriate and adequate supplies available for all laboratory procedures and assist with ordering as needed. Other duties as assigned. The Embryologist III is capable of working autonomously and is accountable for managing the weekend workload and responding to alarms as needed. Education & Experience Bachelor of Science in Biology, Chemistry, Reproductive Biology or Animal Science required. Meet the College of American Pathologists (CAP) requirement for the number of Biology and/or Chemistry hours (60 semester hours that include 24 semester hours which must include 6 hours of chemistry, 6 hours of biology and 12 hours of a combination of biology, chemistry, or medical laboratory technology in any combination). Technical Supervisor (TS) preferred. Meet state specific certifications/licensure requirements, if applicable. 2-3 years’ work experience in an IVF lab, strongly preferred for level II. 5 years’ work experience in an IVF lab, strongly preferred for level III. Successfully completed a minimum of 30 supervised procedures for new skills (30 of each type of procedure). Successfully completed a minimum of 20 independent procedures.
