Veterinary Technician - Equine

Payne Equine is seeking a motivated, dependable, and horse-savvy Equine Veterinary Technician to join our growing equine practice. This position involves both ambulatory field work and in-hospital patient care. We are looking for a team member who is passionate about horses, provides exceptional client service, and thrives in a fast-paced veterinary environment. The ideal candidate will have experience handling horses, assisting veterinarians with medical and surgical procedures, collecting diagnostic samples, operating laboratory and imaging equipment, and communicating professionally with clients. Veterinary technician certification is preferred but not required for candidates with significant equine experience. Responsibilities Assist veterinarians during examinations, diagnostics, and treatments Safely handle and restrain horses for procedures Collect blood, fecal, urine, and other laboratory samples Place and maintain IV catheters Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinariansPrepare patients and equipment for surgical procedures Monitor anesthesia and recovery patients Take and process digital radiographs and assist with ultrasound procedures Perform laboratory testing and maintain accurate medical records Prepare health certificates, laboratory submissions, and medical paperwork Stock and maintain veterinary vehicles, treatment areas, and pharmacy inventory Educate clients regarding treatment plans and follow-up care Assist with patient admissions and discharges Participate in after-hours emergency rotation as required Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent Experience handling horses safely and confidently Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check Strong organizational and communication skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Professional appearance and positive attitude Reliable transportation and punctual attendance Preferred Licensed/Registered/Certified Veterinary Technician (LVT/RVT/CVT) Previous equine veterinary experience Experience with digital radiography and laboratory equipment Familiarity with veterinary practice management software Experience assisting with equine anesthesia and surgery Schedule Rotating after-hours emergency duty Occasional weekends and holidays as needed Compensation Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated equine handling and veterinary skills.
