Day to Day

As an Engineering Manager in Site Reliability Engineering at Indeed, you will manage and grow a team that applies software engineering principles to make systems more reliable and scalable. These systems support Indeed’s mission to help people get jobs. You will create an environment where engineers can do their best work by setting clear direction, removing obstacles, supporting their technical and professional growth, and maintaining high standards for engineering and production operations.

In this role, you will partner with product and engineering teams to turn business and reliability needs into clear technical plans. You will help teams set service-level objectives (measurable reliability targets) and use error-budget signals to balance feature delivery with reliability work. You will also guide decisions about architecture, observability, capacity, incident readiness, and sustainable on-call practices, helping teams reduce risk and repetitive operational work through automation and durable engineering solutions.

Responsibilities

• Own the team’s delivery roadmap, aligning priorities with product and business goals.

• Partner with engineering peers, product managers, UX, and program management to define and execute a clear long-term strategy.

• Mentor and support engineers at varying stages of their careers, from new hires to senior contributors.

• Create conditions that enable the team to self-organize, maintain predictable delivery, and sustain healthy velocity.

• Raise the technical bar by setting clear expectations around quality, processes, and engineering best practices.

• Support technical problem-solving by encouraging pragmatic decisions and thoughtful trade-off discussions.

Skills/Competencies

• Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field and a minimum of 8 years of related experience; or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 6 years of experience; or a PhD with a minimum of 3 years experience

• Proficiency with cloud infrastructure and observability tools/platforms, such AWS, Kubernetes, ArgoCD, Terraform, GitLab, and Datadog.

• Experience in improving availability, latency, scalability, and efficiency of systems through modern reliability practices such as SLOs, error budgets, incident response, and operational guardrails.

• Proven experience delivering large-scale initiatives that span multiple teams while establishing effective engineering practices and processes.

• Experience with modern software development technologies and architectures (e.g., service-oriented systems, APIs, web or backend frameworks).

• Experience working with data-intensive systems or applied machine learning is a plus but not required.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Tier 2 - United States of America 155,000 - 233,000 USD per year

Tier 3 - United States of America 171,000 - 257,000 USD per year
