Part-time Court Officer

The 39th District Court is seeking a qualified and professional individual for the position of Court Officer. This position is responsible for maintaining courtroom and courthouse security while providing assistance to judges, court staff, attorneys, defendants, jurors, and the public.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide courtroom and courthouse security.
• Coordinate and facilitate zoom hearings.
• Check in attorneys and in-person parties appearing before the Court in person and via zoom.
• Interact daily with court participants and members of the public in a professional manner.
• Utilize observation skills to identify and diffuse potentially dangerous situations before they occur.
• Enforce courthouse rules and maintain courtroom order.
• Utilize verbal commands and physical force, when necessary, to restrain disruptive prisoners or members of the public.
• Immediately respond to incidents including assaults, disturbances, or other situations threatening the security of the Court.
• Supervise and monitor in-custody defendants while in the courtroom. (This position does not transport inmates to or from the building.)
• Remain vigilant to prisoner activity and detect unusual behavior to ensure the safety and security of employees, defendants, and the public.
• Bring and return files between clerical areas, courtrooms, and judicial chambers.
• Prepare disposition forms for the jail.
• Coordinate Zoom hearings with the jail.
• Respond to emergencies within the court building and provide assistance as needed.
• Document incidents in written form and submit reports to the Court Administrator.
• Assist with the care, control, and supervision of jurors assigned to the Court.

Qualifications
• Current CCW permit required.
• Must be able to become firearm, CPR, AED & First Aid Certified.
• Must possess basic computer skills and familiarity with Zoom.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality.
• Prior law enforcement, corrections, military, or court security experience preferred.

Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
• Ability to physically respond to emergencies and security situations.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
