Description North Suffolk Cardiology is committed to providing advanced cardiovascular imaging services to support the diagnosis and treatment of heart and vascular disease. The Cardiac CT Technologist performs specialized cardiac computed tomography studies, including Coronary Artery Calcium Scoring and Coronary CT Angiography (CCTA), while ensuring patient safety, image quality, regulatory compliance, and exceptional patient experience. Essential Functions Perform cardiac CT, coronary calcium scoring, CCTA and related cardiovascular imaging studies. Verify orders and patient identity. Obtain patient histories and assess contraindications. Establish and maintain IV access as permitted. Administer contrast media per protocol. Evaluate image quality and complete post-processing. Ensure compliance with radiation safety standards and ALARA principles. Maintain accurate EMR and PACS documentation. Participate in quality assurance and accreditation activities. Cardiac CT/CCTA Clinical Responsibilities Perform Coronary Artery Calcium Scoring (CAC) examinations. Perform Coronary CT Angiography (CCTA) studies according to established cardiac imaging protocols. Assist with Structural Heart CT examinations including TAVR planning, Watchman/LAA closure planning, pulmonary vein mapping, and aortic imaging. Ensure appropriate heart rate assessment and preparation prior to imaging. Collaborate with cardiologists, advanced practice providers, and nursing staff regarding patient readiness for cardiac CT procedures. Perform advanced cardiac image reconstruction and post-processing utilizing dedicated cardiovascular imaging software. Generate multiplanar reformations (MPR), curved planar reformations (CPR), maximum intensity projections (MIP), and 3D reconstructions. Contrast Administration & IV Competency Demonstrate competency in peripheral IV placement. Administer iodinated contrast agents according to departmental policies and physician orders. Monitor patients for adverse contrast reactions and initiate appropriate response procedures. Maintain documentation related to contrast administration and extravasation events. Quality & Accreditation Participate in CT quality assurance and quality control programs. Support compliance with American College of Radiology (ACR) and/or Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) CT accreditation requirements. Maintain regulatory compliance with NYS Department of Health, radiation safety standards, and organizational policies. Assist in protocol development, optimization, and standardization for cardiac CT procedures. Participate in ongoing performance improvement initiatives and quality metrics reporting. Program Development Responsibilities Assist in development and implementation of the Cardiac CT Program. Participate in staff training, competency assessment, and workflow optimization. Collaborate with physicians and leadership on protocol refinement and operational improvements. Assist in patient and referring provider education regarding Cardiac CT services. Position Requirements Required Qualifications Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program. ARRT(R) certification. CT certification ARRT(CT) required. BLS certification. State licensure as applicable. Preferred Qualifications ARRT(R)(CT) Minimum 2 years CT experience Minimum 1 year cardiac CT experience preferred Experience with Siemens, GE, Philips, or Canon cardiac CT platforms Experience with advanced cardiovascular post-processing software ACLS Certification preferred Demonstrated competency in IV access and contrast administration Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, CT physics, radiation safety, contrast administration protocols, customer service, teamwork and effective communication. Physical Requirements Ability to stand for prolonged periods, assist with patient transfers, move equipment and lift up to 50 pounds with assistance. Work Environment Outpatient cardiology office with exposure to ionizing radiation and contrast media.
