ABOUT THE POSITION
Reporting to the President of the Board and working closely with the Executive Committee and Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) serves as the strategic and operational leader of JBBBSLA, responsible for advancing the organization's mission, including strategic planning, strengthening organizational performance, expanding community impact, and fostering a positive and collaborative work culture. The CEO oversees all aspects of the organization, including mentoring services, Camp Bob Waldorf, college access and scholarship programs, fundraising, finance, and administration, while partnering closely with staff, donors, and community stakeholders.
The ideal candidate is a mission-driven, strategic, and relationship-oriented executive with a proven track record of leading complex nonprofit organizations through growth and innovation. They bring strong financial and operational acumen, an ability to build high-performing teams, and a collaborative leadership style grounded in integrity, inclusion, and transparency. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership & Mission Impact
- Lead the development and execution of JBBBSLA's strategic plan to advance the mission and expand its impact across mentoring, camp, and college access programs.
- Drive measurable growth in the number of mentoring matches, youth served, campers, and year-round camp leasing/revenue generating opportunities.
- Strengthen program quality and consistency across all service areas, ensuring alignment with measurable outcomes, participant success metrics, and organizational priorities.
- Establish and monitor dashboards to evaluate program effectiveness, operational performance, and organizational impact.
- Partner closely with senior leadership and the Board of Directors to identify strategic growth opportunities.
- Foster a culture grounded in accountability, collaboration, innovation, and mission alignment across the organization.
- Oversee day-to-day organizational operations, ensuring effective execution across programs, finance, administration, development, and camp operations.
- Review and analyze financial statements, budgets, explain variances, monitor cashflows, and identify opportunities to increase revenue and rationalize expenses.
- Implement data-driven management systems, AI reporting tools, and forecasting models to improve operational oversight, pacing, resource allocation, and decision-making.
- Strengthen organizational efficiency and cost management practices while maintaining high-quality service delivery and strong financial stewardship.
- Improve communication, coordination, and collaboration across departments to ensure alignment, cooperation, and organizational effectiveness.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing leadership team, fostering professional growth, transparency, accountability, and strong cross-functional collaboration.
- Build and sustain a positive organizational culture that emphasizes clarity, inclusion, and teamwork.
- Create an environment that supports employee engagement, strengthens staff morale, retention, leadership development, and mission-driven performance.
- Provide visible and accessible leadership across the organization, maintaining strong relationships with Board of Directors and key stakeholders.
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with donors, foundations, community leaders, and strategic partners to deepen engagement and expand organizational visibility.
- Partner closely with development leadership and the Board to grow philanthropic revenue, strengthen donor stewardship, and advance long-term fundraising strategy.
- Identify opportunities to expand partnerships, community engagement, and external collaborations that support organizational growth and mission advancement.
- Increase visibility and support for JBBBSLA across the Jewish community, the broader nonprofit sector, and the Los Angeles philanthropic landscape.
- Work closely with the Board of Directors and Executive Committee to support organizational strategy, governance, and long-term planning.
- Provide consistent and transparent reporting on organizational performance, including financial results, operational priorities, KPIs, and risk management.
- Partner with Board leadership to strengthen governance practices, support effective decision-making, andensure alignment around organizational goals and priorities.
- Engage and leverage Board members as ambassadors, strategic advisors, and philanthropic partners in advancing JBBBSLA's mission and growth objectives.
- Support ongoing Board development and engagement, fostering strong collaboration between governance and executive leadership.
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in nonprofit management, business administration, education, public administration, social services, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of ten years of progressive leadership experience, including significant operational and organizational management responsibilities, preferably within a nonprofit, youth-serving, educational, camp, or mission-driven organization.
- Demonstrated success leading, scaling, or improving organizational programs and operations, with a strong track record of driving measurable growth, participation, engagement, and service outcomes.
- Proven executive leadership experience, including building and managing high-performing teams, developing leadership talent, and creating a strong organizational culture.
- Strong operational and financial management skills, including budgeting, resource allocation, organizational planning, and efficiency.
- Demonstrated fundraising and donor engagement experience, including cultivating and stewarding relationships with individual donors, foundations, community partners, and volunteers.
- Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to serve as a compelling ambassador for the organization across philanthropic, community, and professional audiences.
- Results-oriented and highly accountable leader with a collaborative management style, strong emotional intelligence, and the ability to inspire confidence and alignment among staff, Board members, donors, and community stakeholders.
- Familiarity with the Los Angeles nonprofit and philanthropic landscape and/or the Jewish community is helpful, though not required.
- A deep commitment to the mission and core values of JBBBSLA.
The salary range is $295,000 - $325,000. Benefits include:
