THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This National Guard position is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC INSPECTOR, Position Description Number D1286000 and is part of the CO FMS 2, National Guard.

The purpose of the position is to serve as an inspector of surface maintenance vehicles and equipment to ensure that physical and operating characteristics are within acceptable standards and specifications.

Duties

Inspects a large variety of heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical and automotive vehicles such as attack tanks, large cranes, tank retrievers, fire trucks, bridge transporters, armored vehicle launched bridges, bulldozers, road graders, crawler tractors, power shovels, self propelled earth compacting equipment, self propelled artillery, etc. Inspects complex, interrelated mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic and electrical systems, equipment and their components while in operation or in a standby condition. Inspects equipment to determine repairs needed. Inspects the full range of equipment as described above at remote worksites in support of field organizations, field units during field exercise training periods, or before major pieces of equipment are sent for repair to a supporting maintenance facility. Performs other duties as assigned.

• Membership in the Colorado Army National Guard.
• Must hold the grade of E-4 thru E-8.

• Eligible for a relocation incentive, the employee must have an appraisal from the prior with that's a 3 or higher.
• Relocation Incentive is available for only current federal employees. Will need a current appraisal in good standing.
• Recruitment Incentive is for employees newly appointed to a position or following a break in service of at least 90 days.

Qualifications

Military Grades : E-4 thru E-8

1. Specialized experience will be used to determine qualifications for the announced position.

Must have at least 18 months of Specialized Experience in each of the following:

1. Experience leading to an extensive knowledge of the mechanical makeup, operation, and working relationships of complex interconnecting systems, assemblies, and parts for a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles, and equipment.

2. Experience diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying interconnected complex systems on a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles, and equipment.

3. Experience working with or knowledge of state of the art electrical, electronic, complex hydraulic, pneumatic, and other major non-mechanical systems that have a functional relationship and effect on the operation of major mechanical systems.

4. Experience working with or knowledge of hydraulic lifting, loading, turning, and positioning systems and their mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic controls.

5. Experience working with or knowledge to develop or improvise methods, alter parts, and make repairs in the absence of technical guidelines (such as modifying parts to fit and mesh into systems for which the parts were not designed); improvise modifications to equipment to correct recurring malfunctions; and design modifications to meet special test requirements or other special needs.

Relocation and Recruitment Incentives

Eligibility:

• Recruitment-Employee newly appointedto a position or following a break in service of at least 90 days.
• Relocation-Current employee who relocates to accept a position in a new geographic area. If you are eligible for a relocation incentive, the employee must have an appraisal from the prior with that's a 3 or higher.
• Subject to availability of funds and must be approved by TAG.

Education

Education cannot be substituted for Specialized Experience for this position.

6. Per ARNG-HRH Policy Memorandum #10-39, mandatory Full Time Staff (FTS) training is required within a year of hire as a condition of employment in vacancy announcements for both Technician and Active Guard Reserve positions. Failure of new FTS personnel to complete NGB prescribed courses at PEC within the first year of employment may be cause for reassignment to other full-time positions or termination of their employment.
