Infectious Disease Physician

Tulane University School of Medicine is seeking a Transplant Infectious Disease physician to join a growing, highly specialized academic program focused on solid organ transplantation. Clinical Environment
Practice at East Jefferson General Hospital (LCMC Health), one of Tulane's primary academic teaching hospitals. East Jefferson is a 420-bed regional referral center recognized for its commitment to quality, patient safety, and clinical excellence. The hospital has earned Magnet Recognition for nursing excellence and an 'A' Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group. The transplant service includes a dedicated 12-bed Solid Organ Transplant Unit supporting kidney, liver, pancreas, heart, and LVAD patients, with continued expansion of advanced transplant services, including future lung transplantation programs. The program is supported by a dedicated CT-ICU and a growing multidisciplinary team of transplant specialists.
Schedule & Structure
• Highly transplant-focused clinical practice
• Two half-day outpatient clinics per week
• Inpatient transplant infectious disease consult service with the option for limited general infectious disease coverage
• Approximately two weeks of call coverage per month
• One-in-eight weekend call rotation
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
• Provide expert care for transplant recipients with infectious complications.
• Perform pre- and post-transplant infectious disease evaluations.
• Collaborate closely with transplant surgeons, nephrologists, hepatologists, cardiologists, pulmonologists, and other specialists.
• Develop and implement evidence-based infection prevention and management protocols.
Teaching & Academic Engagement
• Educate medical students, residents, and fellows.
• Lead lectures, case discussions, and bedside teaching activities.
• Mentor trainees in clinical practice, scholarship, and professional development.
Research Opportunities
• Participate in clinical and translational research related to transplant infectious diseases.
• Publish findings and present at regional and national conferences.
• Collaborate on funded research initiatives and quality improvement projects.
Qualifications
Required:
• MD or DO from an accredited institution
• Completion of an Infectious Diseases fellowship
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Infectious Diseases
• Eligible for Louisiana medical licensure
Preferred:
• Additional training or fellowship in Transplant Infectious Diseases
• Experience caring for solid organ transplant recipients
• Interest in academic medicine, education, and multidisciplinary collaboration
New graduates completing fellowship training are encouraged to apply.
