I. TITLE: HVAC Technician
II. QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated experience in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial HVAC and mechanical systems. Knowledge and experience with boilers, hydronic heating systems, air-handling equipment, rooftop units, heat pumps, water-source heat pumps, pumps, motors, cooling towers, refrigeration systems, and related mechanical equipment. Knowledge of HVAC electrical components, motors, controls, sensors, actuators, and related control circuits within the scope permitted by applicable licensing requirements. Experience troubleshooting and maintaining building automation systems (BAS), direct digital controls (DDC), pneumatic controls, and other HVAC control systems. Ability to establish and perform preventative maintenance on HVAC and mechanical equipment. Experience with commercial piping systems, including Victaulic, threaded, soldered, brazed, and welded systems, preferred. Ability to diagnose mechanical and control problems, determine appropriate repair methods, and complete repairs efficiently and safely. Ability to use computerized maintenance management/work-order systems and accurately document inspections, maintenance, repairs, labor, and materials. High School Diploma preferred. Physically capable of performing assigned tasks. Ability to communicate and work effectively with district employees, contractors, students, and the public. Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including climbing ladders, working in mechanical rooms and confined spaces as permitted, working at heights, and lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds. Required licenses and certifications: State of Idaho HVC journeyman or other applicable HVAC licenses, including journeyman plumber license, refrigerant license, welding certificate. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. III. REPORTS TO: Maintenance LeadIV. JOB GOALS:
To support the delivery of School District 91's written, taught, tested, and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement. To maintain District heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, refrigeration, and related mechanical systems in a safe, reliable, efficient, and serviceable condition to support a comfortable and effective educational environment.V. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Inspects, troubleshoots, maintains, repairs, and assists with the installation of commercial HVAC and mechanical systems, including boilers, furnaces, air-handling units, makeup-air units, rooftop units, heat pumps, water-source heat pumps, air conditioning systems, refrigeration equipment, exhaust systems, pumps, motors, and related equipment. Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs low-pressure boilers and hydronic heating systems, including pumps, valves, heat exchangers, expansion systems, and associated controls Maintains and repairs cooling towers, circulating pumps, condenser-water systems, chilled-water systems, and associated equipment. Troubleshoots motors, starters, relays, contactors, variable-frequency drives, sensors, actuators, thermostats, control valves, and other HVAC electrical and control components within the employee's authorized scope of work Troubleshoots, adjusts, and maintains building automation, direct digital control, pneumatic, and other HVAC control systems. Uses the District's building automation and energy management systems to monitor equipment operation, schedules, temperatures, alarms, trends, and other operating conditions. Investigates HVAC complaints and operational problems and determines appropriate corrective action Performs scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance, including inspections, cleaning, lubrication, filter replacement, belt replacement and adjustment, equipment testing, and other manufacturer-recommended maintenance. Maintains water-treatment systems and coordinates with contracted chemist to monitor water chemistry associated with boilers, cooling towers, closed-loop heating and cooling systems, and other mechanical systems as assigned Coordinates with water-treatment vendors and other contractors and reports abnormal operating or water-quality conditions to the supervisor. Performs maintenance and emergency repairs on HVAC equipment, pumps, motors, mechanical systems, and related components. Oversees or implements equipment replacement, system upgrades, commissioning, seasonal startup and shutdown, and other mechanical projects. Uses sound judgment in determining whether equipment should be repaired, replaced, or referred to an outside contractor. Responds to HVAC and mechanical emergencies and appropriately prioritizes work to protect occupants, facilities, and District operations. Coordinates work with school administrators, custodial staff, Maintenance Department employees, contractors, and other District personnel when repairs or shutdowns may affect building operations. Provides appropriate advance communication regarding planned equipment shutdowns, service interruptions, or work that may affect building occupants. Completes assigned work orders accurately and in a timely manner and documents work performed, equipment condition, labor, materials, and follow-up work required. Maintains tools, equipment, vehicles, parts, and commonly used supplies in an organized manner to support efficient completion of assigned work. Assists with maintaining District HVAC equipment inventories, maintenance records, equipment histories, and replacement recommendations. Assists in identifying opportunities to improve system reliability, occupant comfort, indoor environmental conditions, and energy efficiency. Assists other Maintenance Department trades when operational needs require and when the work is within the employee's training, qualifications, and authorized scope of work. Participates in training necessary to maintain required licenses, certifications, and technical knowledge. Performs all other duties as assigned.VII. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position is scheduled for 40 hours per week, 254 days per year. Monday through Friday is considered to be the normal workweek. Emergency conditions may arise which will require attention at any hour of the day or night. Benefits will be in accordance with approved Board policy. Wages will be in accordance with the Classified Salary Schedule as follows: Grade 12: Must have at least one required license/certification and five years of relevant experience ($25.16 or $26.39, with a bachelors degree) Grade 13: Must have at least two required licenses/certifications and ten years of relevant experience ($26.38 or $27.67, with a bachelors degree) Grade 14: Must have all required licenses/certificates and ten years of relevant experience, with two years of experience with Idaho Falls School District 91. ($27.72 or$29.11, with a bachelors degree) This is an "at will" position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The "employment at will" policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91.VIII. EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Maintenance Supervisor in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on the evaluation of the classified personnel.
