he Controller is an integral part of the finance team, specifically responsible for providing support to the Chief Financial Officer by leading the accounting functions at HandyTube (and supporting the accounting functions at Micro-Tube Fabricators), interpreting operating results and making specific recommendations for cost reduction and profit improvement. The Controller will also work closely with the sales, marketing and manufacturing functions with financial analysis and make recommendations to support the business plan; establish long-range goals, strategies, plans, and policies; and support the International Sales efforts through coordinating letters of credit, open line credits, and safeguarding systems to assure minimum liability to the Corporation. Responsibilities Responsibilities will include developing accounting policies to comply with GAAP requirements, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements, and management reporting requirements; acting as the primary contact with the organization’s independent auditors on accounting matters; administering general accounting, property accounting, and record retention programs; and directing the preparation of periodic and yearly financial statements, conditions and results in accordance with GAAP and SEC requirements. In addition, the Controller will supervise, train and develop the finance staff as needed. Oversee the daily accounting functions, including but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, month end close. Prepare monthly financial statements and provide commentary on actual vs forecast, budget, prior year for the month, quarter, and year-to-date, Segment income statement reporting. Working capital management and improvement. Prepare monthly financial forecast, including but not limited to income statement, balance sheet and cash flow, including any future risk to plan. Prepare the annual budgeted financials statements and quantify assumptions for discussion with management. Create reporting to assist senior business leaders with business decisions, or clarity on financials. Prepare and analyze activity-based costing system and update the rates annually or as needed. Build financial modeling for what-if scenarios. Understand capitalized variances. Make specific recommendations for cost reduction and profit improvement. Supports the sales, marketing and manufacturing functions with financial analysis and recommendations to support the business plan. Approving transactions, payments, invoices, manual journal entries, reconciliations, reserves, etc., as appropriate. Acts as the primary contact with the organization’s independent auditors on accounting matters. Administers general accounting, property accounting and records retention programs. Directs the preparation of monthly financial statements, conditions, and results in accordance with GAAP and SEC requirements. Key Measures of Performance The successful candidate will continuously improve the company’s controls, contribute to the quality of earnings, and insure optimal utilization of capital while adhering to the requirements established by the SOX act, SEC, GAAP, COSO and the PCAOB. Meet SOX compliance through no un-remediated SOX gaps. Meet audit requirements through no year-end accounting adjustments. Improvement in A/R percentage in terms. Timely submission of deliverables, required by Corporate. Timely monthly closure of books per Corporate requirements. Appropriate development of staff. REQUIRMENTS Knowledge Areas We are seeking an individual with a proven track record of operating effectively with business leaders, across functional boundaries, building and sustaining external and internal relationships while using seasoned judgment coupled with excellent financial acumen and integrity. The successful candidate must be a “hands on” leader, understanding financial details and translating them into operational and strategic opportunities. Experience Candidates should possess 7+ years experience in all aspects of accounting, including AP, AR, Payroll, Asset, Cost and General Accounting. Demonstrated 3+ years supervisory experience in an accounting environment. At least 2+ years SOX experience. Experience with QAD or other ERP systems is required. Education BS in Finance or Accounting is required; MBA is preferred. CPA or CMA is preferred. Personal Trait Profile Must be a “hands on” leader. Strong planning and organizational skills.
